I do love the fact that people bitch about the lighting... Even missing that 1 light, the place is like daylight compared to Riverhead NY and Seekonk MA... It's absolutely indescribable how dark those places are...

Some things are in the works for more upgrades soon thanks to Formula D coming in. Bitch about the dirfters all you want but they bring in some bux.
I love ya like a brother Phil, and commend you and Kat supporting Donnie's attempt to make this event a success. But I've raced on that track without that light working in turn two and let me tell you, it's flat out hazardous. Seekonk may be a little dim but the light is consistent all the way around the track. At OSW you enter a well lit turn one then in the middle of two it all goes dark as you are trying to negotiate your exit. As any racer knows, to be fast you have to drift (pun intended) right out to the wall to be fast. It's no fun with your old eyes trying to adjust to the darkness wondering where the wall is as you try and maintain maximum speed on exit. Broken scoreboard and dilapidated bleachers can be overlooked, this cannot. Unless they implement a policy of no racing after dusk it's just plain unsafe. At least for anyone over 40!

That back wall always was a popular one to get into...

And at least one life has been lost back there.

      Scott--headlights?

scratch that--put a LED "light bar" on the roof!

Jacko--the infield is reportedly paved. Maybe the SCCA would like to rent the place and throw some pylons out there. Autocross-with-some-banked-turns might be interesting...

I would pay to see the drifters actually race on the oval. Mandate about 2" of stagger and a hard compound and let me cheer on my favorite sideways ricer!

I heard Donnie was a drifter (in this case, a low-plains drifter...), maybe run it by him.
Those cars will never and would never race. They just are not built for it nor do they have roll cages that would allow such in many cases.

Oh and your "ricer" comment is absolutely silly... A ton of drift cars these days are powered by american muscle.

Perhaps, but I like typing it...

US drifters = Hot Pockets? (hey, they go with rice...)

Ironically, for being such tough guys in the movies--they will never race??

This is the full reason Donny intended on having this race during daylight hours. They are working on getting that light fixed but again, it costs money. That money will come from Formula D coming in. I never said that track was perfect to drive on with that light, but Scott I think you seem to forget what Seekonk is really like... The lighting there is dizzying light dark light dark light dark... It's far from consistent... Riverhead is worse... It's lit by construction lights lmfao!

You guys all sit and armchair manage that track till the cows come home but for what? It hasn't made a difference, and will continue to not make a difference. At least the track is still there... Where is Lakeland? Where is the paved track at Volusia? What about Hialeah? There is still future hope here. Even if you don't like where it is now, hold on to that hope until the last fence post is pulled out of the ground.
phil I will say this again you are out of your mind!!! that track has not been turmoil for 15 years ... when Rusty Marcus was there that place was booming. will somebody back me up on this please I will say it again since ozzy take over it is the worse track for racing, food ,lighting EVER!! worse track in Florida right now .

Au contrere monsieur Phil! Last time I was "up nawth" I went to "The Concrete Palace" for a big Pro Stock show. While I'll agree it ain't MUSCO the weird "6 street lights on one pole" system at least gives SOME light all the way around the track. I'm at least glad that the money from the Formula D deal will be used to fix it, well, at least if Ozzy doesn't break his word (again).

"[speed world is the] worst track for racing...in Florida or the Whole Freaking Universe!"--ST1

Okay, I added the universe part...

Have to disagree. The racing is closer than NSS, turn four to the front straight is more predictable than Citrus.

Unlike Auburndale there may be a second groove (I dunno, without cars it is hard to tell, but they used to be able to pass at the joint).

Lack of promotion ain't the track's fault.

You smoking some good shit brother... That track hasn't seen a decent crowd or car count since at least 2000... I attended races there and NSS many times through the early to late 2000s. I never saw more than 100 people in the stands or 50 cars in the pits unless it was a big show. If you think that is something to be proud of you need a god damn education. Rusty made the place "better" from 04-08 and it was shit long before and shit long after. They were mediocre at best in his time.

Lack of promotion is ALWAYS the tracks fault. ALWAYS That is the tracks #1 job and how they get people there. If they fail at that, everything else fails around it.

Good, go back to the 1970s cause that's where you are stuck. You and the rest of the people who say "why can't it be like it was back then" need to realize it never will be because it's not back then anymore, it's NOW. I don't care what the place was like in 1970. It doesn't matter today at all.

I understand your argument, the transition from well lit to dark screws with your eyes. I am simply saying it's no darker than Seekonk.
