You may be correct about racing them on asphalt. I have to believe they're quite a bit different on dirt. I think we should be transitioning to more fwd cars but we still need some rear wheel classes to prepare the drivers for one of the premier classes. JMO

theres a big difference between a car dragging it rear end around a corner verses and rear wheeled car with power to the rear wheels.

shorttrackcar1, do we know each other? There were so few people out there sometimes that I suspect we must know each other, I just can't figure out who I am talking to.

Also, have you ever raced a FWD car on pavement? They are much more like a RWD than they are different from RWD.

I agree, wish it was dirt so we could see some racing. Asphalt really does kinda suck. Satire or not ? LOL !

Continue to run Super Stocks while they last... This class has seen its better days because affordable RWD cars/chassis/engines/parts are getting harder to find and when you do it's not cost effective at all... Come up with a new Super Stock class within two years using six-cylinder FWD cars that are made into real race cars... Several tracks up north are doing this and getting big fields...

                        better solution:

Keep the current superstock class but allow modern domestic AND foreign efi 6&8 cyl (front AND rear wheel drive) cars to run with the vintage monte carlos we have now.

with this change they will also need to open up the tire rule since a 15"wheel wont fit on alot of modern cars. So give a maximum rim width (9 or 10 "?) and allow the drivers to run ANY DOT tire that they can fit on the rim.

lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

Combining classes is the only business plan that makes sense for race tracks who plan to survive. People in the stands want to see 20 or 30 cars in a race and they really don't care very much about how it was accomplished. The only bitching is from a very narrow band of racers who seem to be willing to destroy racing if they can't get every rule turned to their favor.
The open mods and e- mods should have been combined a long time ago. And on at least 10 inch slicks, maybe wider. Your e-mod not quite fast enough to hang with the open mods? Then invest in a different cam or intake. You're still many thousands of dollars below the open mod engines.

Just a thought here, as I'm admittedly not a 'nuts & bolts' guy when it comes to racecars...... but, here goes:

How about putting 10" on the E-Mods, and Open Motors on 8". Would the handling of one, equalize out the power of the other? Is it a baseline thought that could work with some tweaking?

Quote from Matt Albee. "The open mods and e- mods should have been combined a long time ago. And on at least 10 inch slicks, maybe wider. You start doing that to crate engines and watch them blow. Those engines were not built/engineered to take a increase in power and RPM. Just putting a cam in leads to more than that. Cam=lifters=upgraded timing set=better/correct pushrods=guide plates=correct valve springs/retainers to match cam=better rocker arms & studs/installation of studs=cutting heads for bigger springs=cutting guides for increased lift of cam so retainers clear=better valves for increased rpm=valve job. And while we are at it let's go ahead & mill the heads for more compression and hope the valves clear the pistons. If they don't clear just run it and the valves hitting the pistons will make more clearance automatically. Oh well it's only about $2500-$3500 to do that correctly if you are using the head cores off the Crate engine. Now what you going to do about the lower end?
