pure bullshit. any ranking which places Cuba ahead of or equal to the United States is worthless on it's face. and you need to explain why Canadians stream across the border ( sometimes paid for by their own socialized health care system ) to access American doctors and hospitals.
Yes,it's pretty pitiful that Cuba ranks ahead of the US in healthcare but that has been acknowledged by health professionals for many years. That's not new. Actually, health care in Cuba is about the only success Castro can claim. As to why Canadian's are "streaming" to the U.S. as in the link you referred to. That was only one person. That's not even a drip. Why are US citizens streaming to Canada to buy their medications?

I can see both sides of this and have been and worked in countries that provide so called free health care. To clear up something it's not free your TV that you watch cable on cost 300 dollors in taxes each year for every TV you own that doesn't include what the cable cost. Gas is about twice what we pay. The taxes on food, clothes and about anything else you can think of that you need to make it from day to day is taxed 16 to 20 percent and that doesn't count what they take out of your check each week.If they can put a tax on it they do.
I personally new a guy that was a gaurd and a citizen of this country at one of the hangers I worked in and he was diagnosed with cancer and buy the time he could get a appointment with a cancer doctor it was to late so they gave him pain killers and sent him home to die. I can understand that some people can't afford insurance but don't complain to me when you sit down and drink a beer or something else that you really can do without.
I know he's said the rich will pay for all of this but they will just pass the cost off to the middle class as we pay more for goods and services like when your electric, gas or food goes up as we pay for the carbon credits not big business.

Now theres an argument that defies logic . The people who don't want universal health care always come up with a horror story about someone in Canada or England who had to wait months or years for treatment and finally died because it took so long to get treatment under their system . And that may very well be true . Yet i've seen numerous interviews of Canadians and British who say they are perfectly satisfied with their healthcare system . One side or the other is obviously BSing , but heres the part that defies logic . Both of those countries , and many , many others have had that system for decades , or in some cases almost centuries . Yet their citizens have never voted to change the systems . Not ever . So my take on it is , if it really didn't work pretty well , the people in these countries would have gotten rid of universal healthcare a long time ago .

Modracer, you're correct. Nothing is free. I personally am not advocating "free" health care. I just think it should be affordable and available to all. I also think that it should be better, at least as good as Cuba's and a couple dozen other countries.

Why are US citizens streaming to Canada to buy their medications?

            1) Prescription drug prices are lower in Canada because the Canadian government limits the amount pharmaceutical manufacturers can charge for brand name drugs.

            2) Drug companies selling into Canada are not allowed to advertise their products.

            3) In Canada, generics become available 5 years earlier than in the United States and must be at least 25% less than name brands.

            Do you see the relationship?

Government intervention in the private sector.....that's the philosophical question at hand.

Governments "intrusion" into the private economy. It ceases to exist as we know it at some point. (NOT GOVERNMENT)

That's the real debate. How far does it go?

Now because I have worked my ass off anywhere from 60-90 hours a week to make sure my daughter will never have to go with out and maybe go to college someday you want to take some of my money. FU COME AND GET IT, I can promise you will get more then you asked for. NOBODY helped me but me.

I am not trying to take away from what you did I just want to point out that isn't as easy to do anymore. With this economy if you are lucky enough to have a job they are cutting hours left and right.

John you surprise me the most. If you go to the church you say helps people then I am sure every Sunday you throw money in the little basket that comes around. So what you are saying is that because Uncle Sam might want to help people it is wrong because you pay for it to. BUT yet I am sure you throw money in that basket yet have no problem when that money gets used to help someone. That confuses me.
The biggest difference? CHOICE I choose to "put the check in the basket."

I do not have any choice of how much Uncle Obama is going to "redistribute my wealth" except by voting and voicing my opinion, which has not been restricted by congress yet ... But we'll see what Uncle O tries to do next. He's already limited the news reporters to scripted questions, which he gets to read 2 hrs before hand. True story.

Another reason I prefer the church handling it is I feel much more comfortable with the level of efficiency than leaving it to a wasteful, corrupt bureaucracy with all kinds of hands in the till.

As for people making $400 a week ...

I did that. NOT FOR LONG. I got smart and figured out how to make more.

Some of us didn't have a choice. We are just born that way. Some are born with a silver spoon and others are just born. Some have IQ's that allow growth. Some don't.

Your right, some of us didn't have a choice and some of us are just not that smart. But we do have the choice to work hard, be productive in society and keep our noses clean. I have no sympathy for someone who whines and cries about it and has a poor work ethic.

Wow I never had anyone admit they were stupid before. I disagree with you though Winger, you aren't. You have shown that you can post on an internet forum which puts you ahead of at least 50% of the people I know! LOL

As for silver spoon, well my dad died a while back and he didn't leave anything to me. My mom got it all and she is gradually giving it all away to the evil sister.

I was always glad to have my dad there for advice but as I look back over the years, it's probably my younger brother that has helped me out more financially when times were bad. He started working at the bottom of a bankrupt printing company in 1985. He is now CEO and it is very successful. I learned a lot from him.

Most important thing they both taught me is never get yourself in a position where someone else determines your income. In other words, either own your own, or work on unrestricted commission.

Thank you to my brother Bob and my dad - publicly!

OSF, I am happy to see you made it out of the closet. Sorry there is no STFU on this subject for me. Ain't gonna happen. I'll pass on the beer with the racist, I don't want my temper to get the best of me.
