By using intelligence and doing some footwork on your own. As was mentioned, getting the product visible to the public is a big thing. Send someone out to hand out flyers. Hang larger more visible flyers in key high traffic establishments or areas etc etc etc. Some thought needs to be put into it. Sure it will cost a little money but if you do it intelligently you won't lose your ass on it. And most importantly, it's not going to happen over night. It may take a few weeks to start getting a noticeable flow of people.

LOL okay, fair enough... What holiday kept people away 3/21?Originally posted by scottgarrity07 View PostWell the REASON (as Sean Foster sez "excuses are for bitches") for the small crowd the week previous was the beginning of Passover which kept the large Samsula Jewish populus away. Nice try!

Surely something can't stop the stands from being populated EVERY week...

The majority of baseball fans buy tickets at the game, not in advance. And it really makes no difference if the baseball stadium has a roof to keep the the fans dry or not, they don't play baseball in a pouring rain.Originally posted by scottgarrity07 View PostApple to onions comparison. People buy tickets to baseball and other entertainment in advance, races not so much. And, oh yeah, Baseball stadiums in FL have ROOFS!
NSS crowds have been terrible for a number of years from what i've read, and from what i've seen on my infrequent trips over there.
I've seen their lack of fans and cars blamed on the weather, the economy, lack of advertising, rules, rule enforcement, management, cheaping out on maintaining the place, and incompetence.
I think we can rule out weather and the economy.

Kat did that for OSW--and more power to her!
What I know of the principles at NSS, that really doesn't fit their style (IMO), and further, by default the scope of the area will be less than where radio waves can reach.
IMO, they need more cars per class and to somehow get them to run closer to each other. NASCAR does it, they should be able to...

We have already gone over the more cars per class deal. NSS struggles cause they are pretty much out there alone on the east coast with OSW not operating regularly. It's always been my theory that tracks need other tracks to survive. It doesn't help either that the majority of these tracks wont work together. There are ways to work schedules etc so everything works together I also think if tracks rotated operating weekends down there, as crazy as it sounds, it would help also. But that's a tough theory to test out without taking huge risks.Originally posted by OldSchool+ View Post"By using intelligence and doing some footwork on your own...Send someone out to hand out flyers."--PJ

As you probably know, they ran OSW for years.
Trust me, it was slow on Saturdays, and slow on Fridays.
Obviously they decided that was not cost effective.
FYI, NSS and the West Coast (Auburndale included) have never been cozy, as far as I know.
Track owners are independent types, right or wrong.

ps--I mini stocks are not my favorite class.
But somehow 8 or 10 of them at Showtime are a better show than the typical strung-out late models at NSS.
And THAT is why I seldom attend.
Until that changes, marketing efforts will be ineffective for me.
It is like a restaurant you don't care for. If it is on commercials for the Daytona 500, who cares?

Wrong! I actually go to Rays games sometimes. Crowd walking in compared to those in the ticket line is easily better than 20-1. It don't rain in the dome either.Originally posted by Matt Albee View PostThe majority of baseball fans buy tickets at the game, not in advance.
Matt, when it's an 70% chance of rain, do you still head out to the track?
Most don't.
I'm not saying that it was definitely a factor here but it does come into play everywhere when rain chances are high.
NSS is a "Big Event Track" like Phil's Thompson Speedway. The big crowds for Governors Cup, other SLM Specials, Sprints, and especially World Series week pay the bills. The weekly shows are just gravy. I think they are just fine with that and the bottom line is healthy there. NSS and Showtime are doing OK. Desoto is on the rise. The rest, I do agree, all need to seriously rethink their business model.Last edited by scottgarrity07; 04-08-2015, 09:52 AM.

Thx for the NSS perspective, Scott.
Makes business sense. And really, almost a convenience for those that wish to participate during the "regular" shows.
They never spread that "Special" stuff to OSW. I suppose it would have been splitting the same pie.
A shame, though. NE modifieds at Bithlo would be awesome.

I agree. Tour Mods at OSW would be a better show than at NSS. They'd be a-rootin' and a-gougin'!Originally posted by OldSchool+ View PostThx for the NSS perspective, Scott.

Now Phil, everyone knows that the crowd on 3/21 was small because of all those tree huggers, like yourself, off celebrating the Spring Solstice. Their immesurable numbers were off in the Ocala National Forest holding hands with all the Florida track owners singing kumbaya and coming up with a plan to "all selflessly work together" for the betterment of the sport!

It's nice you go the Rays sometimes, but not all ball games are played in a dome. In fact, most ball games aren't unless they're major league teams.
I don't pay much attention to impending rain in this state. As any long time Desoto fan can tell you, it could be raining all around the track, and be dry at the track all night long.
Now NSS is a "Big Event Track"? And the weekly show is just an after thought? You might be explaining a lot with that idea.Last edited by Matt Albee; 04-08-2015, 10:13 AM.
