Where do they run ads though? What is their reach and when do they run the ads. That is more important than just running the ads. You can't just say hey play my ad whenever wherever. It has to be done strategically. I have a bunch of friends that live in the Orlando, Daytona and Melbourne areas and I always ask them what they hear and they rarely say they hear anything. The majority of people listen to radio in the car only. Some listen at work, but the main target should be drive time radio for commuting. That is when you are going to have the greatest majority of listeners. I obviously don't know everything that these tracks try to do promotionally, but radio alone won't get the job done either. You gotta get out into the communities and let you know that you exist. I mentioned it a while back, have a couple guys bring their cars to local establishments in surrounding areas near the track with your pace car on display. Some will volunteer, some will ask for some reimbursement for showing up and both are fine. If you are "visible" to the public you draw interest.

Any advertising is good of course, but how many people can you really expect to reach on radio in this day and age. I would also guess that Hart picked the cheapest radio station, not the biggest, so that would make it even less effective. Advertising needs to be an all inclusive package of social media, tv, radio, print, and driver/car appearing at local venues and events.

          Absolutely

Shit... We just agreed... There is a glitch in the matrix...

That would indeed be a help.

So, let's say you are running NSS, and have been doing so for years.

Let's further say that you have a pretty good idea of the "net" for a given evening.

              Let's say it is 3K.

Do you pay 3K in media costs and hope that it brings in more than the 3k it costs, and understand it may be your entire profit for an evening?

Or do you charge someone somewhere more for something to offset those costs up front?

What do you think they will do? Not what you think they should do, but rather, what they will do?

And I am good with whatever their decision is.

You see, I can and have walked away from New Smyrna and Volusia County if I decided the cost of admission was out of line.

I'm sure the imminent threat of rain moving in had nothing to do with the small fan count.

Lost in this is how NSS moved the show along to get all the races in before the rain came and not drag their feet and wait for rain to cancel and pork the racers out of a purse because they had nobody in the grandstand, like other tracks (including some Northern ones) do.

Weather is always a threat... It's FL... People still pack baseball stadiums and other entertainment venues that stand a reasonable chance of postponement or closure due to rain.

But what was the excuse the prior week Scott? They had even less fans in the video they posted then than this week.

Sorry, I don't believe it was the weather.

This is Florida man, there's always an imminent threat of rain. So no, i doubt that had very much to do with the size of the crowd.
It's good they worked to get the show in. I wish more tracks would concentrate on that.

Some tracks run like the rain is coming every week.

It is appreciated by the fans.

You clearly missed a key word in my post... STRATEGY... If you do it proper, you won't waste 3k... If you do it carelessly, you absolutely will waste your money. As Matt said (cringe... now I am referencing his post ) There is more to it than just radio.

The problem with Social Media and Forums such as this, is you are not reaching new people. THAT is what FL needs right now in a bad way but then that goes back to the earlier part of this post... There needs to be an entertaining product to keep those people once you get them and make them want to bring more people with them next time. Its a giant cyclical snowball effect...

How do you "do it proper"?

(I used one of Albee's words in my sentence...)

Apple to onions comparison. People buy tickets to baseball and other entertainment in advance, races not so much. And, oh yeah, Baseball stadiums in FL have ROOFS!

Well the REASON (as Sean Foster sez "excuses are for bitches") for the small crowd the week previous was the beginning of Passover which kept the large Samsula Jewish populus away. Nice try!
