  • Hossier R750 Tire Test

The new tire is grooved but that is the only thing in common with the 650/450 tire. The tire has a stiffer sidewall and the tire has a soft feel to the rubber.

In the test the tire was quicker to come in, as in a qualifying run.

The tire did not loose speed as we put 50 laps on the tire. The times reflect a .2 drop in speed over the 50 laps plus did not give up side bite or forward grip. The car kept the same balance throughout the run.

The tire has a slight less forward grip than the F53 but otherwise feels about the same . We saw less overall wear on the tire than the F53 on the 50 lap run.

The test included a 5 lap run, 20 lap and a final 20 lap run plus warm up laps.

I couldn't stand the old grooved tire but I would race this tire. I feel like we should be racing on a true slick but this has opened my mind back up to the grooved tire.

Thanks for the detailed report! And more importantly, thanks for making the time and money sacrifice to test for the good of your fellow competitors!

Thanks for posting this info, but your life may be in danger for letting the world know about this ultra top secret tire test.
I have some questions concerning the tire itself. Why grooves? Why couldn't the very same tire with the very same performance be done as a slick. Did someone or some series request a couple of meaningless grooves for some reason? What would the grooves accomplish with this particular tire?
If these tires drop off 2 tenths, then some teams will still buy new tires as often as possible because 2 tenths can mean a lot. But that would be great news for teams who want to run take offs because the performance would still be fairly close to the new ones.

this is not the first tire test won't be the last its like every couple of years we have the soap opera of the tire test. race tires are not made to last and never will be. Hoosier would be out of business the teams that are buying new tires every race will continue to buy a new set every race .a new set of tires is always better then a old set. the same guys will continue to win as always nothing will change except the tire.

          Shorttracker,

All true, but it is relative thing. Clearly they make soft tires that are softer than others, that is why Goodyear changes the Cup compounds from time to time.

And also true is that some folks are struggling to make the field. Without them, you don't have a field, you have 3-4 cars that are about to become part of an extinct class.

Wendell Scott, Junie Donlevey, Dave Marcis...all could afford to race at one time but Cup grew beyond their "independent" means.

I think that "8modified's" testing sounds very positive.

That is true. There will be teams that will continue (and WIN) every time they run buy NEW tires. I've got a few questions. Is this just for NSS or all the tracks going to this tire? Is this set in stone already? When will it take effect? Reason I ask that I was planning on running the 75 lap race next month and I have a new set of F53's from the Governors Cup rainout 100 lap race. What about repeatability from week to week? Is this a way to get the E-Mods to be compatable with the Open Mods so they can still run? This is a one day deal. Run the tires and then in a week run them again and a third week run them again. Looks like it may be time to put the car back in moth balls.

This test was for the sportsman tire correct? Was it at showtime ? who tested the tire? I surely hope the tires are not going to be changed again. I for one will fight this ....... The F-53 slick is a good tire.....the best we have had on this side of the state for many years. Its not broke and it doesn't need fixed period. If anything should happen give the sportsman the f-53's then we all have the same tire and there will be plenty of take offs to go around... I can remember not long ago having to have different tires for different tracks.......that's was just stupid.

I know what the fix is for the tires cut the middle man out let the racers buy there tires direct from Hoosier this would help save a lot of money for the racers. I bet the new tires the price goes up .

Don't sweat it Dave. The implementation of the 750 hopefully will be statewide, but just for Sportsman classes and lower. The 750 was tested on Jerry Symmons OWM at NSS with Boyd driving. There was also a Late Model on the 750. But this testing was done for a different track, not NSS. I have talked with the folks at NSS and they assured me that they have absolutely no intention of putting the OWM at NSS on the 750, or taking them off the F53. Now as for Showtime I have no idea. Funny thing is that I heard Boyd (as well as 8Modified) was impressed with the 750's driveability on the OWM. However, I say keep the OWM on the F53 and put the rest of us lower classes on the 750.

Sounds darn close. And, of course, tars ain't cylinder heads. New ones need to be bought frequently (so having a bunch of "old" ones--whatever the compound--becomes neither here nor there in short order).

But whatever is good for the majority of the racers is great for me.

Scott, I assumed the test was with a modified...is that not the case here?

Not to be a smart ass, Old School, but I would assume that 8modified drives a modified and tested tires with his modified. Daniel Webster was to test the 750 on the Z1 sportsman at Showtime.

THe best tire EVER imho was the white lettered Goodyears, wish Good year was still in short track racing. I, more than likely, will park my car if we go back to a treaded tire. If you want treaded tires build a Sportsman, Street Stock etc. People will still buy new tires every week for those 2 tenths, 8 modified said they fell off. It will come down to the same thing it ALWAYS has MONEY$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

                            Scott,

Agreed. But OWM53's post kind of suggested (to me) that maybe it wasn't...

He also compared it to the F53 (the current OWM tire). OWMs belong on the F53 if that's what they want. Sportman and lower on the 750 because that's what we NEED. The F53 would not be a good take off tire because it lasts only 2 races. The OWM and Sportsman have been on different tires for a few years now. I don't see why that needs to change.
