The World Street Nationals are currently going on at the drag strip.....probably won't hear much from Ozzy this week....He may not even know Jimbo left.....

I have to believe that the circle track has seen its last races......I know Ozzie has reached out to a couple of big money racers to see if they wanted to come in as a partner.......He will probably run 2 or 3 Crash o Rama's a year, maybe rent it out to movie people or rent it to racers but I don't see him throwing money at it keep losing it.......he probably saves money not opening it at all.......I don't know what his deal was with Robert as far as having to keep it open, Robert probably prefers it closes so he gets a few more cars at NSS......

I understood it to be a package deal.... both tracks, or neither. All he really wants is the drag strip.

Unless the drag strip fails, or unless he has a provision to sub-let the oval track to someone else, I think its gonna be the way it is.

Sub Lease OSW

I wish he could "sub lease" it. But it would only work if he stayed out of it. I don't think anyone who would sub lease it would want any interference. There are too many good ways to bring it back to life, and yes it would mean spending a bit of cash, but if it's spent right, the chances of success would improve. A big problem is that investors like to put their cash into things that are already going and show good profit potential. They would probably view OSW as a long shot at best. I think the length of the lease is a turn off also. With the economy like it is, who knows what racing would be like in 5 or 10 years. It makes everything frustrating for the people who want to race there and for the fans who might come back if promoted the right way. Do you spend the money to get your car ready for OSW, even though you promised the wife that this past year was the last. Or do you take her on the cruise you have been putting off because you needed parts. There isn't anything much worse than hearing her say "with all the money you spent on that car, we could have been on a cruise, instead of looking at it parked out back" !!

The Speedworld dragstrip is in the middle of a multi-day event. I drove by today and saw that it was absolutely slam packed with cars. There were thousands of spectators there, and their cars filled the oval track parking lot and more. I don't get it; the drags are not my thing.

For those of you who are critical of the new track owner, note that this guy puts on huge events at the drags and packs the people in. Clearly, he has done nothing for the oval track yet, he's been a disaster so far, but its also not fair to think he is anything less than a pretty darn good businessman. Stand by, I don't think the oval is done by any stretch of the imagination.

Friday night racing. Or Sunday-night racing. Dare to be different.

7:30pm start time.

*Get the track repaved and the "weeping" fixed.*

Run heat races - don't *ever* do time trials for a weekly show.

Five classes *maximum*. Super Late Models, Sportsman, 4-cylinder *stock* cars, and Legends. The fifth class can be a "touring series" once a month, like the Sprint cars; a *good* Figure 8 class; etc.

Start the fast guys in the back on a four-week average. Miss a week, and you start at the *back* back.

Run three Sunday-afternoon specials a year: Memorial Day weekend (100-lapper for your premier class); Labor Day weekend (extra-distance, double-points); and Governor's Cup weekend (200-lapper with "pit road" in the infield on the "X".)

Mid-week show for the 4th of July week. 125-lapper for the Super Late Models.

Twice a year, run extra-distance, double-points shows for your lower divisions.

Bring back stuff for kids and young adults - kiddy rides, model-car contests (build your favorite driver's car; separate age/experience categories), Big Wheel/bike races, trick-or-treating/costume contests (again, age categories), autograph sessions, etc.

Offer some sort of "family ticket" - 2 adults and ("x" number of children) for $25.

"Pack the car" nights - $20/carload.

A *printed* race program with photos from the previous week, point standings, ads, place for autographs, etc.

In February or so (just before the World Series and Speedweeks kick off), bring down some "northern" stuff: Supermodifieds (Winternationals, three or four nights), NASCAR TOUR type Modifieds, USAC Midgets and Sprints, International Outlaw Figure 8s, dirt Late Models on pavement - *anything* that's not run down there on a regular basis.

Racing season from April-November. Long enough season to allow for a few rainouts.

Special event

This weekends race at the strip is a special event that was advertised nation wide for months. It is called the street machine nationals and will pull cars and people from most of the country if you win you will get notoriety in magazines from every where thats why its packed. Win at the circle track nobody will know. Most of the people at drag races and car shows like The Daytona turkey run on thanksgiving weekend are car people they cringe at the thought of a crumpled fender let alone maybe hitting the wall hard, they are in it for the quality of the car not the competition.

I sent a message to there facebook site 3 days ago asking if they were still going to race as scheduled on 11/16/2013 all I hear is crickets ...not much chance of the place making it if they don't get info out there
