Carl run the same events Ozy is running for years and packed the Draaaaag Strip too. Just a slight name change so it's not his new idea.

I went to the drag strip yesterday. The place was packed with both fans and competitors. It was a BIG money maker, and it was only 1 of 3 days of really nice income.

As a business man, it doesn't take Warren Buffet to figure out which model is better to make money at: LOTS of income with very little paid back, or very little income where the racers expect most of it back (and very often, more than they even took in).

He'd be a fool to drop his profits from the drag strip into the oval track.

I don't know how the oval track will survive.... Ozzie holds the keys, but posseses none of the desire.

Desire to loose money ? Desire to make mouthy people happy ? He's a businessman and if he can find a competent person to manage the place it might survive. Y'all blame it all on Ozzy, how about the people he hired to run the place. So far, nothing but failed attempts and attitudes.

I have been saying this on here for a while now drag racers no matter where they are from or how far they travel are happy just to have a place to race. Drag racing doesn't pay worth a crap never has never will. If you could make money and not pay anything out or lose money and listen to racer do nothing but bitch and moan what would you pick? It is real easy to spend someone elses money but the smart thing to do is just what Ozzy is doing, not what you want to hear but thats life.

That's funny ! OSW has been that way for years. Well before Ozzy inherited that mess.

Maybe he has not found anybody with enough business experience to hand them a blank check. I heard they are promoting crash-a-Rama at the drag strip this weekend. Maybe he only promotes events that have proven to be successful.

What's the total purse at the World Streetcar nationals ?

They were also announcing the return of 'Night of Fire'..... another huge money maker for the drag strip. Between the Street Nationals, Night of Fire, and a Crash-a-Rama or two, he wouldn't need to open the gates at EITHER track the rest of the year to come out with a profit.

The drag strip will continue to create some profits from the weekly events, but the oval track, as things stand now, is almost guaranteed to lose money each week, or at best, possibly break even.

There HAS to be a way to make this track work, but trying to convince him to invest time and money into the place, is gonna be a TOUGH sell.

The total purse is on the website they have four classes the fastest class pays $10,000.00 to win, 2000.00 runner up, down to 250.00 to qualify fastest
32 cars qualify, everyone else goes home for no money. 200.00 to enter.

The other 3 classes are $5000.00 to win 1200.00 runner up down to 200.00 to qualify 32 cars qualify. 150.00 to enter.

This race would be considered one of the biggest races for these guys in the country the fastest class would probably run 6 second passes or low 7s for a street car thats hauling ass.

It's pretty hard to argue against the points you guys are making about the profitibility of the drag racing at Orlando (although I find drag racing about as exciting as watching paint dry). I just wonder why Ozzy even lead anybody on about caring about the oval track to begin with? His efforts over there can't hardly even be described as minimal. The water is under the bridge. After counting your money tomorrow Ozzy, just shoot the suffering animal and put it out of it's misery. Press release: "After some consideration I have decided to close the oval track for all events except for Crash-A-Rama and whatever oval events that outside entities would like rent the venue for. Thank you- Ozzy Moya". At least that way he would be honest with everyone, they can move on and the hard feelings can be capped. To continue on half-heartedly isn't fair to anyone. It is painfully evident that with the lease being paid every month to Robert Hart and all of the cars from OSW being expelled, this is nothing more than a win-win for NSS. Profitability out of OSW and a higher car count and fan base for NSS. It sucks but business is business, I guess.

I should mention that would be 5 rounds of racing to win, plus qualifying. doesn't sound like much but that is hard on parts transmissions. convertors, engines they all take a beating win running WFO pass after pass.

For the record here, the 'quickest car ran something like a 5.90, while the 'fastest' ran over 232 mph.

If that's 'paint drying' excitement, I'll take it any time. These aren't 14 second grocery getters, these guys are FAST and SERIOUS.

I'll always be an oval track guy, but there is some high adrenaline rushes you can get at a drag event.

And I didn't hear a SINGLE complaint from a single fan about their night at the track. When's the last time that happened at an oval track...???

If all the people that think Ozzy should invest in the oval gathered together and combined their savings, 401k retirement funds, and sold off a few of the broken down cars in front of their trailer, they could lease the oval from Ozzy and run it their way and get rich. Really, have y'all ever considered a joint effort to lease the track ?

No offense, Jerry. As much as I love the "Classic Muscle Car" element of drag racing that's about where it ends for me. Half the time there is isn't even a "race" as one of the cars will break or red light. It just doesn't do anything for me. I don't have any crusade here. Everyone is entitled to enjoy what they like. I DO support and commend American-Made horsepower in all it's forms, I just won't be there watching. For me Circle Track (not the demeaning roundy-round term those guys use) is where it's at. In our sport horsepower is only a part of the puzzle. Add in the mystery that is handling/setup, driving talent, bravery vs. stupidity and psychology (intimidation/confidience) and now I'm hooked. BTW, I didn't hear anyone compaining walking out of the Governor's Cup!
