  • Wayne Anderson Replies to Saturday Night

This is my very first and only post. The motor in the 77 car at Auburndale Speedway was tossed out because the seals were not approved by the Florida United Promoters series, which is false. There have been several FUP races this year with Byron Koury Engines. I won the Clyde Hart FUP race with a Byron Koury spec, set fast time at Citrus, finished 4th with no tech problems. Alan Bruns had a Byron Koury spec engine at the Clyde Hart FUP race with no problems. Randy Anderson raced the FUP race at Lake City with this same motor and car from Saturday night and had no problems. Todd Allen finished 3rd at the last FUP race at New Smyrna with a Byron Koury spec and had no problems. Rex said in the driver’s meeting Saturday that the race was being run under FUP series rules. So how can you say the motor isn’t legal after Saturday nights race?
There was a meeting at New Smyrna Speedway with Steve from Progressive Engines, Jimmy Cope from Cope Engines, Dave from CRE, Byron Koury from Byron Koury Engines, Robert Hart, Kim Brown, Butch Pierce, Alan Bruns, Danny Allen, Dick Anderson, and myself. It was agreed that the 5 motors that were built or rebuilt by Byron Koury Engines were grandfathered in. Byron Koury was asked not to build any more, which he agreed.
Let me start by saying that the motor did not win the race Saturday night. We would have ran 2nd if the 07 had not broke a rear end. The 77 car was a limited engine carrying the weight of a super spec (2850), which I felt was wrong. The 77 owners were told by Rex after the race to take the motor out and HE would take it to Steve at Progressive to be checked, or send someone sometime this week. Tom Sytsma asked Rex to have Brian from Progressive (who was there) to seal it and he would take it to Progressive since he only lives 40 mins. from Progressive. Rex said no. Then the Sytsmas asked who was going to pay to have it put back together and Rex replied “not my problem”. Then the Sytsmas asked “when could we have our motor back because we are going to Punta Gorda Friday and Rex replied “sorry about your luck”. I then asked Rex to call Rusty Crews, director/tech inspector for the FUP series, to check the approved seal numbers, and Rex response was that Rusty was no longer going to be the director of the FUP series, so why call him?
The problem with Rex Guy and I go past Saturday night.
Rex was upset with the FAST series last year when we would not return for the 2nd race at his track. So he went to all the owners of the tracks that the FAST series was going to and have them go with him on a new series, the Florida United Promoters series. The truth about it is the FAST lost money, so we were glad something else came along. We only started FAST to generate late model racing. We just didn’t like how the tracks (Rex) went about it with back door meetings. I have put my differences aside and showed up to every FUP race but one to show I support late model racing.
I was told by Rex Guy on the phone last week that he and Don Cretty were going to control Florida late model racing and the other track owners (Bronson/Punta Gorda) need to get on board. Myself and the rest of you late model racers can only hope that Rex doesn’t control our racing, which we have supported longer than he has been a track owner.
I just personally want you people to know how this went down. I race for a living and would not take a chance on losing the money I earned. I feel sorry for Tom & Tommy Sytsma for having to go through this BS over a vendetta!
Was this a way to repay the Campis for Rex’s track causing so much damage to their car earlier this year?! I have been racing for 25 years and well respected around the country. I am not a liar or thief, can Rex Guy say the same thing?
I also want to thank Jim Fenton and the Wescott family for giving us a great paying race and the hospitality shown by them this weekend. I just hate the fact that the race was at Auburndale Speedway.

Sorry this was so long but I felt like people need to know the truth.

Outstanding job in stepping up to the plate. Leaves the speculation out about what went down.

What a shitty way to handle things as a track owner.

Thank you Wayne. Some of us out here(actually most of us) know the integrity you and you family have in our sport. I was hoping you would break the silence and give us the accounts of what happened.
Don't know if I will ever be on the track with you, but racing with your son in e-mods is a joy. Randy will carry on the family heritage for sure.
Hope to see you at LCS this Friday.
      -JIM-

PS Really enjoyed watching you in that race Saturday..Good clean racing.

Way to go Wayne it is good to see the driver get on here and explain what happen and to me that shows class. It is ashame that because the track owner has a problem with you he as to take it out on the car owners and it is also said that he just can't let it go. If he takes over latemodel racing in florida it will truely be a sad day for all who is involved.

They can only control LM racing if the drivers and other track owners allow it. Telling Bronson and Punta Gorda to get on board sounds like the mafia to me. Just my opinions. Good post Wayne. I've gained a lot of respect for you today. billy

Well said Wayne, Sounds like Rex had a vendetta againsed you. Unfourtunately your car owner paid the price for his ego or pride getting in the way. Its unfourtunate that a owner/promoter is running off cars-racers-and fans.

Yea that does suck. At least we know what really happened rather than just speculating. Thanks

                  Rex Guy responds as well

This is my first post as well. First of all the motor in the 77 car at Auburndale Speedway was DQ'd because it had the wrong seals on the motor. It was a Progressive Engine with Byron Koury seals who is not an approved engine builder for the Florida United Promoters Series. To solve the problem, tech (not me) asked for the motor to be pulled and shipped Monday morning to Progressive Engines at NO COST to the car owner. If were to be found legal it would have been put back together at NO COST again to the owner and returned. If found illegal then the owner would be responsible for the motor. FASCAR had approved the Byron Koury motors however FASCAR is not FUPS. For $5,000 any racer with any common sense would have pulled that motor and had it shipped if they knew it to be legal. As far as these motors running the FUPS races, evidently Rusty Crews, the tech must have not been checking whether or not these cars were running these motors. No where in the FUPS rules does it state these motors are legal. I along with Kelly Hosch wrote the rules and had them approved with the other promoters. FASCAR series has nothing to do with FUPS. Wayne, the reason we discontinued the FAST series at Auburndale because you didn't want the rules to apply to you. If you hadn't have raced in that series, it would have lasted and been very successful, but why would racers want to race a series where all the advantages went to you. After the FAST race at Auburndale, I went to the meeting with all the FAST officials. I was told that Kevin Ingram would not be allowed to race at any FAST series race and that Wayne would not be on probation or suspended for a race (as every other driver would have been) and this is why your series was not successful because the drivers knew that you would have unfair advantages over them in these races. You should have been suspended but you wouldn't abide by the rules like everyone else would have to. Therefore, Auburndale wants to run an above board series that is fair to every driver. The race this past Saturday was an Auburndale points race with FUPS rules. As far as a personal vendetta, there is none. You were more than welcomed at our track this past weekend and any other weekend that you have been there. We are business people trying to keep a race track alive for all racers. As far as calling me a liar or a thief, open you eyes and look in the mirror. It was stated yesterday that you were sending the motor to Progressive this morning to prove to everyone that it was legal however it hasn't shown up yet. Steve at Progressive told me personally that it was not there and that he had told Tom last week that this motor was not legal for Auburndale or Desoto. Tom told him that "Wayne would get it passed through". Nice try. I'm sorry to be so long winded also. These message boards are only places for people to be hateful and vengeful and it does nothing to promote racing as a positive good thing.

                      Rex

Rex, well thats the pot calling the kettle black your son didn't have to make the 5 laps before qualifying , nobody is allowed to have anything more than an air gauge but yet your son has his hood off and also he would not have made the top 8 draw if the time was not messed up on the 23 car. Whats your response gonna be for this REX?
P.s him leaking oil for several laps without being called in
As for the Kevin Ingram incident as to my knowledge none of the fast members wanted to return to your track .

If that was the case, why was it allowed to run in the first place? It's not like the motor was swapped in between Tech and race time. If it was "unapproved" after the race, why was approved before it?

Sounds to me like the Tech people didn't catch it, and nobody will step up and say "I screwed up".

No wonder things are so messed up here in Florida.... too many rulebooks, and too many cheesy excuses that YOUR motor isnt legal in OUR book. You'd have to have 4 motors to be legal at 4 tracks. Pure insanity.

Never hear this kind of drama at the dirt tracks.
