"Florida Super Late Model Drivers and Fans......If you feel alone it's not because your being left out. It's because your in the lead."

No offense Tim, but you are kidding, right?

An average of 17 SLM in each Sunbelt show isn't exactly setting the racing world on fire. PASS has averaged 28 per show, ASA South averaged 25.5 and the first Blizzard Series race had 38.... how does this put the Florida scene "in the lead"?

We're in the lead because "our guys" don't have to put a chip on their spec motor while the rest of the country does...

Jack, let's look at the chip. If you remove the chip from a crate and you run it to 7200 how much extra hp do you get??? 1 to 3 maybe? You'll chew the motor up. Rules I ran had no chip rule. 10 inch cam bolt height rule. Weight breaks, left side weight. 2 brl on a built and 4 on a crate. 3 1/2 inch fram height rule driver in the car at anytime of the night. Not change your mind 3 times in one night and then time a car to see how long it comes back up to height then go with that for rule. Like I have said before, racing in the south better shape up. It is in trouble for late models. Worse part of that is some of the better drivers in the country are from down in that area.

Jerry, none taken. I too would like to see the counts pick up in the Sunbelt Series. I believe they will. The issue I was referring to was the spec motor debate.

Jack, unchip theirs, chip ours, theirs were never chipped to limit horsepower, they were chipped to keep them in one piece.

How about this - no more spec motors. Build a 9:1 or race a crate, you decide. And move out of the way when the 9:1 comes by to lap you.

Jack, if more people could afford 9:1 engines I'd be right there for you. Spec motors are the only other alternative. I'm with you on the crates though.

Jack Tripper; Have you listened to the interviews with drivers Wayne Anderson, and Jeff Choquette, builders Steve McInnis (Pprogressive) & DeWaine McGunegill (McGunegill) and promoters Dennis Nixon & Don Nerone?

If so, what are your comments on their statements about this issue?

I have listened to the interviews you have listed, save Mr. Nixon. In listening to all of them (going from memory since the first interview started a while back) I don't think any of those people are on the same page at all. While Choquette made valid points, I don't think he was getting what Anderson said in his interview about the tech of the motors and the lack of consistency with the rest of the southeast, much less the nation. If I had to pick one person I agreed with the most, it would be Mr. Anderson and if I had one person to disagree with it would be Mr. Nerone.

Do you honestly think out of state drivers will be towing in for 2009 Speedweeks at NSB after this year's debacle? I really doubt it. I think that sums up this topic of discussion fairly well.

Jack, did you hear Mr Anderson mention anything about setting the track record (breaking his own cars track record and still holds it today) at Columbia in 2006 with a progressive spec motor? Did he say anything about winning two 50 lappers and dominating a Sunbelt race before breaking an axle, at Columbia in 2006 with a progressive spec motor? Now I will leave it to everyones imagination. What else do you think you did not hear or he didn't mention. Wayne's a racer, and a good one, but he's not a tech man, a promoter and he certainly doesn't speak for the entire racing community of the United States. He said what he felt. I respect that, but don't think he speaks for hundreds of others. It was his and only his opinion. Lets find another one like it then we got a discussion.

I was there at Columbia and spoke to Wayne that night, so you don't have to tell the story to me.

I knew as soon as I got sucked into picking a side this would happen. I equate debating spec motors with debating religion and politics. No one will agree, so what's the point?

I get it Jack, don't take it personal. You are a Sunbelt/super late model fan and we need 10,000 more of you. I just want you to understand that we are working toward the goal you want us to achieve. Stick with the Florida/Sunbelt racers. You will be proud of the outcome. In fact go to Lakeland this weekend, you will see a great race. Don't confuse it with the crate model ASA tour. This is a whole different product and people, and they aren't afraid of the "Florida" spec motor.

                            What Tim???

Tim, just let me say for the record. Wayne has never had or never will buy a Progressive Motor. He DID NOT have one at Columbia..Period!!!! he has raced his dad's car with one it, twice I think. That's all. But it wasn't at Columbia. It was a Ford steel head motor wayne had in the car at Columbia.
Dan O'connell built that motor then Jeff Hamner fixed it right and made it stronger after it broke a few times. I started this thread and commented about the SEAL motor program because I was reading it on Speed51. That's all. Check it out!!!! Jack Tripper, all I have to say is AMEN brother. Loved your comments..

It was a progressive spec motor that he ran there and set the record with. The whole purpose in getting involved here was that one person said his opinion and it was taken as if he's speaking for the whole world. You are right he never has and never will own one. It's a personal issue between both parties, which made it an even more biased opinion. There was so much that hasn't been said. In this setting people have the ability to form there own press and know body seems to call them on it. I'm speaking for the drivers in Florida and abroad that own the 100+ spec motors that are out there now. Want to here an interesting opinion on the subject call any of them? Ask them what the spec motor has done for their program. Not someone with an out of state engine builder as a co-sponsor. As far the seal program goes, you still haven't answered my questions that I asked. Who did they invite? Why was it formed? What does it change?

Also, this is not personal with Wayne, I have always gotten along with him and as a fan I love to watch him race. He races every lap like it's the last one. Support all your driver's. I am.
