  • Motor Wars 2008

Sooooo, anybody else listen to the interview with Wayne where he described the current situation on the spec motors in FL (in one of the Rattler results threads)?

From what I gathered, NSS/FASCAR (maybe others?) have opted to allow a spec motor with no limiter chip that is way out of whack compared to the motors allowed in other parts of the state and the southeast. In addition they gave this motor (which already had a performance edge) a weight break! His comments about the future of SLM racing in FL due to this are right on track in my opinion. They have just pretty much ruined NSS Speedweeks next year as nobody is going to come back down with one of the other spec motors and try to beat Choquette/Russell under those circumstances.

I am not an insider on these things by any means, but from where I sit, this looks to be one of the dumbest moves made in a long time. Anybody have another angle on this?

This was a great piece of audio to listen to, it's fascinating to hear someone that arguably puts a ton of butts in seats in Florida saying how the rules are making him run dirt and aphalt in other states.

I for one did not know that Choquette has been clocking everyone with basically an unrestricted spec motor. Don't get me wrong, Choquette's a major talent, but look at his result at The Rattler when he can't run an unchipped spec motor.

Love him or hate him, Wayne is a great interview and always gives great insights into the tech and business side of being a short track racer that a casual fan just doesn't know. I always learn something new when he's on this show.

      Thanks Real Racin USA!

        Jack Tripper

Jack I agree with everything you said and I'm not trying to start any arguement here, just providing some info: Choquette was also not in his equipment up there at the Rattler, he was in the "07" for Guaranteed Concrete. They broke something in the suspension during their qualifying lap and struggled with the car all weekend. I agree with the unchipped motor but I would like to have seen what he could do with his equipment and the chipped motor, maybe better maybe worse. Hindsight is 20/20

I agree Tripper, I have said many time that I am not a fan of Waynes, but I do respect him. I was surprised at how interesting that conversation was. If he is dead on with his thoughts, and nobody seems to be denying it, we are in for a real drought in the SLM scene. Already knew it was coming from the economic standpoint, but this just exacerbates it. The one thing that the premier events do is bring in cars from all over and encourage crossover from other series. To basically make everyone coming from outside the state buy a different motor to be competitive just aint the right road.

I am a big Choquette fan these days, so I think he would have done well at NSS regardless, but having a weight break and more motor certainly didnt hurt.

            Padding there pockets

After listening to Wayne Anderson's comments about the motor rules here in Florida it sure seems like some of these promoters are getting there pockets padded by the engine builders. I was told through the grapevine that there's only 3 engine builders that can have there motors in Florida.
It sure seems to me that these guys that are building these motors could careless about the rules and could build you a motor that could spank everybody for a small price. And you get a weight break to boot because of the SPEC motor.I guess Don Nerone has something to do with that!!!!!
I was told by one man that was thuinking about getting one of these moptors and he was told by Progressive Engines that they could build him one for $16 thousand. If you want to beet there ass give me 19thousand.Just seems hinky to me/something isn't right there. It's kind of like Outback Steakhouse. No rules/Just right!!
I think these engine builders down here in Fla are scared to have a (Hamner Spec motor or a mcgunnigal spec engine<<can't remember the spelling). it takes away money from these guys building these motors down here.getting there pockets full by order of the Promotors. (If you just run my engines I'll give you X amount of money to run just my motors. Hmmm. something to think about!!

                Deleted post by me.

I deleted my previous post because Mr. Nerone let me know he was disappointed. I'll leave it at that...unless further and deeper action is warranted. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Well, Mr Nerone, do you have another angle that would make this seem at all logical? RJ''''s post didn't seem to be anything other than an informed opinion. if this motor was a mistake, lets fix it sooner rather than later.

                      Don Nerone Upset

Well, Well, Well, I'm sure Mr Nerone has some explaining to do about this one. Of course he's mad. because someone busted him. Plain and simple! He's tripping on his on feet and can't explain this situation. My opinion is he's looking and waiting for a good explanation. HMMMM, just can't find one at this moment so we guess it's TRUE!!!!
Sad sad day for alot of Florida racefans that pay way too much to get into the stands to see a race that's already set up for the favored few to win. I would love to hear from Don Nerone himself. Not Sandy but, Don himself please. I know what the real answer is. But would love to hear his perspective on this..hahaha. ok, time to go. Hope to see what everyone has to say on this.

If Don was disappointed but you still believe in what you said why did you delete your post?

I thought this year was going to be the resurgance of the Sunbelt Series, but now it sounds like it's going to be even worse off. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm sure BOTH cars will put on a hell of a show!

That series is so far down the tubes, I don't know if it can ever come back. I can't believe they want $20.00 a head to go see them. You won't get that from me at any local show this year.

I'll never forget Nerone saying "we don't WANT 40 cars, we just want the 20 BEST ones". Other than Lakeland and the Governors Cup, I bet there isn't 20 cars at 1 single Sunbelt race this year. Who's left that hasn't been pissed off by now?

                            Response

                            Jacktripper:

In response to your question, I'm ashamed to admit...politics. I believe 100% in what I stated, unfortunately, I'm probably the wrong person to be stating them in this environment. There are enough people saying the same thing, so fortunately, my withdrawal from this discussion doesn't take anything away from its pertinence or validity.
