  • 48 is James Hylton, watched him fix blown headgasket in the garage when he ran the 24 hrs at Daytona and then went right back out. 46 is Bobby Hamilton (not Cole Trickle) when he worked on the days of thunder movie.

    • Car behind the 46

The powder blue car behind Bobby Hamilton's is the #52 Alka=Seltzer sponsored car of Jimmy "Smut " Means .
One of the last true independents left at the time.
Owned the car, drove the car, worked on the car.

              • I woulda said the 46 was Greg Sacks. Him and Hamilton both drove those cars, but I believe Hamilton filled in for either Cary Elwes (driving the #18 Hardee's car) or the "other dude", Rowdy Burns (in the #51 early in the movie). I know Sacks drove the pink and white Exxon 46.

I would also say the 73 is Phil Barkdoll; don't ever recall Bouchard driving the 73.

                Speaking of *a* Bouchard...

In 1981, Ron Bouchard got his one and only Winston Cup win at Talladega. Who'd he pass three-wide through the trioval and beat to the line?

                • Phil Barkdol is correct, and the #8 late model is Casey Yunick.
The answer to your question Jimmy is he passed Darrell Waltrip and Terry Labonte, I have that very race on VHS.

                        • Jimmy, Bouchard edged out Darrell Waltrip and Terry Labonte at the stripe for the win, hell of a race.

You got two of'em correct, any guesses on the other two?? Hints, the dirt late model driver won his first Cup race at Talladega. The driver of the #92 made his cup debut in this car.
