  • Probably Pearson's first year in Grand National; it's definitely Cotton's Dodge.

    Here's a question for ya's:

What was the name of the "full-scale model car" program put together by one of the major factories in the mid-'70s so racers could buy either separate pieces or a complete "kit" for short track racing? I'm sure this one is fairly easy....there was actually a FULL complete unbuilt one of these on eBay not too long ago....

    • The Dodge kit car, Ruttman and Baker ran 1 in the 1976 24hrs Daytona, it was the only year Nascar stockcars were invited there, I was there, think Hylton was in it; Pearson in 21 also.

          • Mopar's Direct Connection

They had the Dodge Aspen R/t and Super Coupe.
Also the Plymouth Volare' Road Runner.
There were street versions and full on stock cars.
Used to have the '77 Aspen R/T.
Last car I ever owned. Been a van and truck guy ever since.

            • Yeah, it was the Chrysler Kit Cars. They had different body styles with the complete car: a Dart, an Aspen, a Volare' and the Duster. Ol' Richard hisself took one to Dixie Speedway in Georgia on the dirt and ran third if I recall correctly.

*However*...the very first "test" Kit car had a Challenger body on it - and was "tested" by Dale Earnhardt at Metrolina. Nord Krauskopf's group even built one to run on the dirt.

Here's the link to the one that was for sale; and I apologize. It wasn't eBay'ed. It was "MoParts.com":

OK, here's some trivia...where did the word "MoPar" originally come from?

Petty Kit Cars were everywhere at one time, here's a link.

I actually have this model kit in 1/24 scale, and no it's not for sale, I think the one you saw on ebay was well over $200. I am seriously looking for the real street version of this car. If you find one of these or a Davey Allison Edition T-Bird let me know, the Allison car has to be a Super Coupe, not the watered down 5.0 car.

                      • I had a '78 Plymouth Volare' Super Coupe just like the one pictured above, except it was the Plymouth. Even was the same color, no a/c and had 360 c.i.
4 barrel E58 police pursuit engine. I think it was rated at 160 hp, lol. Bought it brand new from Ray Mixon C-P in Jacksonville. Traded in a 1978 Dodge Challenger for it.

                        Is the #83 Bob Dotter?
                        Joe Jacalone

I didn't see no stinkin' model car kit...LOL....it was the full-scale Chrysler Kit Car race car (I posted a link to it in my post). AMT re-issued them in like 2000 or 2001 or so, but in limited quantities and with the Duster/Dart body (not the "squareback" Dart, but the Duster equivalent).

Y'all're postin' some great stuff here....keep it comin'! When I get on my other computer, I'll post some more pics.
