Hey ed I wish things were still that way but cars are not cheap anymore it was 800 just to buy the car and the rest went into safety gear, wheels, tires, and paint. It was a lot after adding everything.I remember going with my dad to the junkyard and getting montes for 100 buck that even had a motor in it.no class is cheap anymore.I could have saved money by not putting in a cage and seat and some old dry rotted tires but your still looking at 1000 to race.,,,,,,,now about food prices they have always sucked on that but I think if the track wasn't takin 30percent from them they could lower the prices and still make a dollar

I do have to say you put a whipping on some of those V8-Bombers
with your stock probe....
That was a good show coming across the finish line on the last lap..LOL...
You had half the stands cheering you on...
thanks Jim. if you noticed, i looked like dog meat in the heat race though. i still think something is wrong with the car but at least i can get it to turn now.
don't know if Rushing knew i was there or not but he was definitely pushing too hard. i'd have never caught him if he had just gotten off the corner straight.
Hey todd what class did you run sat. Night and how did you finish?
A-dale, V8 Bomber. whacked the 99 with the RF at the checker because he was all crossed up and coming across the track on me. to dodge him i'd have probably had to bail way out into the infield and gotten 4th.
No offense but that is exactly what has ruined the strictly stock class. My first 5 strictly stocks didn't cost that much combined.
as Tim says, welcome to the 21st Century. we've bought running Probe's for $500 but that's out of a dealer auction. it would probably be tough to get one that cheap from a junk yard.
and the cars really ought to have cages in them as well which is even more money even for a home bent one.Racers Supporting Racers - for all your Vero Beach area automotive repair needs:

Hey Ed remember that night we all took the 4cyl pure stock dirt cars there and ran with strickly stocks...whooo hooo that was fun to watch,Randy finished second that night coming from the back of the pack in the mustang 4cyl. pure.Originally posted by Edm View PostNo offense but that is exactly what has ruined the strictly stock class. My first 5 strictly stocks didn't cost that much combined. My first one cost less then $100 for everything and I ran several races before crash a rama did it in. I had an absolute blast in that car.
I loved the double file restarts, as a fan and as a driver. I actually saw what the rear of the 111, 25 and 23 sportsman's look like at Nss.
Dalton and a couple of other guys in the 4cyl.pure stocks (Challengers) from volusia was going to race at new smyrna this past saturday night because Volusia was rained out,and we called and they said no because they dont allow 4cyl. to race with the strickly stocks there

Jimmy,
I'm gonna take a wild guess that the cups are counted at the end of the night. This is how the track knows what that vendor or employee has sold.
example; employee starts night with 100 cups. At the end of the night, employee has 50 cups left. If drinks are $2, employee is RESPONSIBLE for $100 worth of sales."I watch figure skating for the crashes"

Well, I can understand that....but still...it's...
Never mind.
I just can't afford to go on a weekly basis, like I'd LIKE to do, because of the cost of food, not allowed to bring our own stuff in, price of admission vs the value, travel time, etc.
That whole "$2.00 for a cup of freakin' *ice*" really killed me, though.

I ain't lying.
Big sign at the ticket window and on the fence before you get through the front gate:
"No coolers or outside food/drinks."
I hate to keep hittin' on this, but as I was leaving the track before the start of the Strictly Stock feature, I stopped by the concession stand to get a cup of ice for the soda I had in my cooler out in the car. Guy says to me, "That's $2.00." I kinda half-laughed, thinking he was kidding. He stuck his hand out the window, and I said, "Are you for real?" He says to me, "Yeah, we have to pay for the cups."
...on top of the non-existent small- and large-sized drinks that are posted on the menu board. It's listed at $2.00 for a small soda, and $3.00 for a large. When I asked for a large Mountain Dew, I was told, "Well, we only have Coke stuff, and it's in a bottle." There's two sizes of PEPSI-branded cups sitting on the counter right behind you! So the girl charged me $3.00 for a 20oz bottle of soda.
I won't be back any time soon.

Sad but true guys , the cups are counted and the smiling young face at the window or counter is responsible for paying for any difference in the cash vs the number of cups . Supposed to keep employees from giving free drinks to their friends or family i guess . A different cup for ice would be a good idea , but then those cups could be used for giving away free drinks to friends and family .
I can't imagine that ice is all that expensive , might be time for tracks to start handing out reasonable amounts of free ice , not to fill coolers , but to cool drinks , or make ice water from the free water they should be providing , or just to chew on .

J-mac,
For perspective, ask the same question to other tracks. I bet that more often than not you will be told that a glass of ice costs the same as a drink.
I am not usually in the stands; how common is the no cooler policy?

I believe we can bring coolers in to the pit side,
how would they keep them out of the pits? empty every double deck hauler before it goes through the gate?
awww jeeez, i hope i didn't just give them an idea....Racers Supporting Racers - for all your Vero Beach area automotive repair needs:

Good Lord... Please don't kill the little break that we do have on the pit side... The majority of people on pit side couldn't afford to drink if they had to purchase everything at the track... We always bring a reasonable quantity of stuff with us to the track... But I always try and purchase something from concessions to support the track... Without the track there we all would not be able to enjoy our favorite thing... SHORT TRACK RACING!!!!!!!
As for coolers, they don't allow them on the grandstand side... But we all know that some people are very creative and do get things into grandstand side of the track...
Remember...
GO FAST AND TURN LEFT!!!!!
