Pretty sure the guys with the Porsche with the whale tails and the new corvettes are in a different economic class than the guy with the v8 Monte Carlo. The road track guys are happy to pay to play.

I agree with bowlegs. The key part of pay-to-play statement is "they have $150,000 race cars".

They can afford it and understand the deal going in. And believe me, I highly respect those guys. They could buy a nice speedboat, or a condo in Banff, Canada, or any of a number of things, but the choose to race. Good for them.

On the other end of the spectrum, there are, and always have been, guys at the track that really cannot afford to be there.

I believe the mindset is "I have a lot tied up here, and I want to race, and maybe--maybe I can win a little back to offset the cost".

It is rather like buying a lottery ticket (& I do not play the lottery). It is typically a loser, but who would buy a lottery ticket if you knew there was NO chance of recouping their investment?

I have a lot of respect for those guys as well.

At the end of the day, it is self leveling. Guys will go, or not go, as will the spectators, but it is up to Bithlo to take care of itself, imo.

I would love to see it come back, but them is the facts, Jack.

        Altered Ego,

Apparently an "Outlaw" met "Lola" late one night and they named their offspring "65".

Ya might want to think about getting a cage welded up to go around the outside of the rear bodywork...

I agree with Michael, I think for local short track racing to survive in the lower divisions, that is on the horizon.

Part of me says I agree.

But as long as one venue is paying (say, Showtime), I am not certain what would happen to the others in the meantime if they tried to go there.

Bithlo, for instance, is probably not going to get the SB2 powered mods showing up for this event.

I wonder how many of them are running their little racing hobby through their business and writing it all off? Probably better for them to keep silent.

That is quite the sweeping generalization! SCCA racers are not only rich, but they are tax cheats too.

The fact is, most of them are racers like us. You would see that if you were there. They have cars that range from expensive to home-built to antique. The difference is they are racing at their home track, not waiting on jackstands for a token payment.

Yep, Like F1 I have respect for all racers.

Have my favorites, but am not begrudgin' nobody nothing, especially those that have money.

Good for them. If they use it racing, good for them.

                            All racing is good racing.

Wondering how many is not a sweeping generalization although assuming all cars are sitting on jack stands waiting for a token payment may be.

you watched a racer with 150,000 car races for 0 well either he has tons of money or he's a idiot with no brains. the old man once said a fool and his money are soon parted . I don't care what anybody says you can not have a hobby like this and keep it up every week with no pay out. even if they let you in the track FREE you couldn't do it .not the average guy . you want to talk about people complaining at OSW yea that's right they did they said they would not come with out a pay out. they stuck to their guns and the track doesn't have races anymore. most of those guys race at New Smyrna now didn't hurt them it hurt OSW that's why it sits with no stock car racing . I can tell you a Sunday race for trophies will draw a few strictly stock guys with junk to run nobody is going to show up with any high dollar cars on Sunday . when tracks are running on Saturday nights that pay out. truth hurts a lot. OSW get back with the program on Friday night that's your only hope .
