Future of modifieds

OK
I wasn't going to say anything else about this topic but it needs said. Look at Desoto's rules. It has stock clip dimensions. The dimensions on the 77 and 78 and up dimensions are slightly different. The 1964- 67 Chevelle dimensions are also different.( Ellis used these) They will all accept ford lower control arms.
Lefthander chassis was using one ford lower and off set rims to keep within the width rule. The problem is that people are using late model fab clips with adjustable lower mounting points and both ford lowers. And Mr. Brooks knows why and was allowing it. Hell all the tracks were allowing it because no one knew better except the people doing it.
Do some research.......Look at the new Port city modified......Stock clip
look at the left hander modified..........stock clip. They will sell you a fabricated clip but dam sure aren't using them on their brand new modifieds??????????????
I believe the reason that I could not purchase a new stock clip from either of them is that the amount of work to prepare one is a lot of work.....trust me I am doing that now and will share the pictures later.
Lets put an end to all this crap.......no ford lowers on mods, no adjustable lowers, one legal track width and if you simply must run a fabricated clip go to the ones that are being built to the stock clip dimensions like Johnson chassis. And add weight
We are not late models and shouldn't be allowed 1000 dollar a piece shocks either. The IMCA modified was created for a man with a budget to race a real racecar. If you have the money to spend then get yourself a late model
Let me also say that I love innovative thinking but there is a fine line between bending or manipulating the rules.
Finally.......All tracks should make a jig or a tool to measure the pickup points like on the Johnson website.Last edited by openwm53; 01-18-2016, 02:19 PM.Doug Miller # 53

Idk
But he is a respected authority in tech for Florida. So burying his head in the sand in this matter is wrong in my opinion.Originally posted by chassisdude View PostI use to have a lot of respect for him, but sure seems like he is screwing up the rules for the modifieds. Every place I know of is 78" width and most all tracks are stock front clips, either he got bought or he owns a outlawed modified like Andersons
All the tracks need to get on the same page..........period.Doug Miller # 53

"The IMCA modified was created for a man with a budget to race a real racecar."--OWM53
Yes. And in 1990 the cars looked about the same, the competition was as close, there were more cars, and everybody spent less money.
Uniform chassis rules would be a step in the right direction.
It is certainly up to the tracks to determine their own rules, of course, but it seems like it would be to their benefit to come up with a single set of chassis and shock rules.Last edited by OldSchool+; 01-19-2016, 10:09 AM.

Just for reference, here is a part of the 2016 IMCA modified rulebook:
"FRAME: 1964 or newer OEM perimeter American rear-wheel drive passenger car frame only. No sport car frames...
Minimum wheelbase 108 inches, maximum 112 inches, both sides. Maximum overall width shall not exceed 78 inches from outside of tire to
outside of tire. No part of frame can be lower than four inches from ground except front crossmember."
As I recall, and as I think I see above, any frame (short of a corvette) is legal.
Back in the day I can remember Ford frames with struts for lowers. Of course, whatever "the hot lick" is will probably become near universal, but that is okay too--competitor's choice.
Width is listed at 78".
Regarding narrowing front track width, is that not fairly easy with different A frames and/or different offset wheels?Last edited by OldSchool+; 01-19-2016, 11:25 AM.

Modified chassis
I have been looking on the internet for new mod chassis and the majority that i find are all stock clips. I have pictures of them all in PDF but cant seem to attach here.
1. Howe
2. Port city
3. Left hander
4. Ellis
5. Wenteg
6. Viking...dirt
7. And i believe Hamke
8. Pletchers were all stock
9. Copes were all stock....sounds like he may be keeping up with the jones's
All are either Chevelle or impala metric..........???? Did Florida create the Fab clip being allowed in our class?
I know its a ton of work to modify a front stub because i have been doing it but nowhere have i seen the fab clip offered or legal.Doug Miller # 53
