Actually it's the majority opinion, especially in South Carolina where this thread began.
Start a thread on the gay pride flag/equal marriage act, we'll see where everybody stands.

By the way Jim, this isn't a personal attack on you, this is my opinion on a flag that has far outlived it's usefulness.

Thank God for Marion County Florida and the people that have the guts to fly the CONFEDERATE FLAG again. Might keep Matt from going to the races there. Look away look away look away down south in Dixie.

                Darren,

Rumor has it that he (they?) are actually Stephen Hawking, theoretical physicist, and he/they don't actually attend the races, but rather...

Subsist in another dimension, where they are "aware" of things, like new fuel injection racecars that need to be built that will be raced for free, and the one flag on the planet you "should" not display.

Oh, and tofu. You need some of that for sure, Darren.

So if the majority voted to persecute you for nothing more than hurt feelings you would be ok with it? Right?

                    enough politicin for me.

While I believe in free speech and support your right as an American to fly the Confederate Flag, I wouldn't piss on it if it was on fire. Again though, I defend your freedom of speech to fly it. However, how would you feel if your neighbor raised a Nazi or an ISIS flag next to you? Wouldn't you also think they were insensitive assholes? You have to admit, there is an awful lot of heritage behind the swastika. Just trying to put this into perspective here. Fly your flag, I don't care, but let's just be honest with ourselves here.

If my neighbor raised a Nazi or ISIS flag then I could cancel my home security service. He would be so watched by the sheriff, FBI, and Homeland security that I would not need any further protection..
Yes a lot of heritage behind the swastika, just not here in the USA, and none of it positive.

As uncomfortable as it might be for some, this country of ours is a Democracy, and that means the majority rules.
I can't think of any instance where the majority persecuted anyone for " hurt feelings " so i can't tell you if i'd be okay with it. The confederate flag is a symbol of slavery, and is often used to race bait. As such, it's the wrong flag to be flying in, or on government buildings. As of this moment, you're free to paint your house as a giant confederate flag, or the roof of your race car as long as you aren't racing in nascar.

                            Democracy?

The Country was clearly established as a Republic by the Constitution. Read it if you like sometime. Christian values were intrinsically woven into it, and it is a given that God wants his people to be free--ironically from tyranny, which is of course right next to...slavery.

What is the difference between a Republic and and Democracy?

In a Republic, Freedoms are guaranteed. That is why there is so much in the Constitution about what the government cannot do. The whims of the "majority" are secondary and theoretically cannot overcome the guaranteed freedoms.

In a democracy, it is true that the majority rules. Therefore 51% of the losers, I mean underprivileged, can determine how much of the income of those that are working can be redistributed to them.

And so on. Beheadings are "workplace violence", while one wackjob theoretically is the point man for a whole demographic of confederate flag flying racists.

Tell it to the "people", tell them repeatedly, and soon the democracy is demanding their removal.

                            How very civil.

Oh, and I have never, ever heard anyone state that their confederate flag stood for their dislike of another human being. Ever.

The "confederate flag is a symbol of slavery" is simply balderdash repeated by those that are wanting to control those who like that flag--and strong state's rights. Period.

More balderdash to follow, no doubt.

Balderdash....now there's a word you don't hear very often, at least not from anyone living in this century. Has a nice ring to it though. Balderdash. Yep, that's a keeper. Balderdash!

It is not a symbol of slavery. That is what it interpreted as thanks to politic. How about the ancestors of those free black men who fought in that war that want to keep it? I have no flag or ties to confederacy. My people came from Germany after that and before Hitler. Old school is right. We were founded as a republic.
