A "Glittering Generality"--A statement that sounds wonderful but says nothing, such as "It's for the children".
A "Straw Man Argument"--A statement that features some mysterious "bad guy" that is out to do terrible things. "They" don't want you to get ahead in life. Get "them".
Both are used effectively without using fact one. Be aware of them, and how they are intended to play on your emotions to promote a specific agenda that has nothing to do with what is being discussed at the moment.
Regardless, it is what it is. I have supported all of NASCAR's changes previously while others have complained, but this is simply--as has been stated--an affront on their most faithful of fans right to express themselves. Worse yet, it assumes terrible things about those fans. I have never owned or displayed a confederate flag in my life, but I am nonetheless offended by NASCAR's decision.
I will watch the racing, at least for now, but NASCAR has lost respect in my book.
