No entry fee, no required tire or fuel purchase! Critter, that's called being a promoter. Hopefully this will catch on state wide, maybe even Yoho will stop raping the competitors.

You have to give the teams what they want, and I suspect that a decent paying race with no hassle is the way to go. I hope you have a great night!

Critter, i have a question. I read in the Bronson thread that while racers weren't required to purchase tires and gas from the track, they would not be able to receive points fund money if they didn't. Is that the situation at Auburndale? And if so, are the racers just not eligible for the Hoosier and race gas points fund money, or are they cut out of all of the points fund money?

Matt, how did YOHO and Showtime get threw into this one, Showtime runs Modifieds the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month, pays 1000.00 to 1200 for 50 laps. 800 for 30 laps. NO entry fee, NO fuel requirement and NO SLAB FEEs to park in the pits. The only entry fee's and fuel is on BIG events that have huge payouts. Showtime didnt even charge the Indy boys an entry fee this past weekend for the 5000.00 to win figure 8 race. DONT UNDERSTAND your deal on this one.

              Matt,
That is not the case here if you race you are eligible for points fund at the end of the year .
              Thanks Critter

Thanks Critter, that's the answer every track should have.

Yoho and Showtime got threw into this one because this topic concerns every racer and every track.
First, nobody asked how much Showtime pays. But you better tell Yoho to up the purse if he plans to stay up with the better tracks in the area.
Glad to hear that racers can use any gas at Showtime and aren't required to purchase from the track. But i also notice that racers are forced to buy gas for BIG events. So the racers get to pay their own purse for BIG events.
I notice you sidestepped the issue of tires though. Are racers required to purchase their tires from Showtime only?
And are racers who refuse to purchase tires and gas from Showtime still eligible for the points fund?
I'm trying to get track owners to stop using the racers money to put on the show, and instead bring in sponsors. That's my deal.

I don't want it to appear that i'm singling out Showtime. Other tracks ( including Five Flags, and NSS i'm told ) are just as guilty of this. And while i haven't been able to get up to Showtime a lot, i give Yoho all the credit in the world for turning that place back into a race track. But it should be obvious to track owners and promoters that there are far better ways of paying purses and the bills than forcing the racers to pay all or part.

Matt, there are no purchase requirements or entry fees for big (or any) races at New Smyrna or requirements for the point fund. NSS also has the lowest Pit Pass price for an asphalt track in FL. ($25 non-NASCAR member, $20 Member). I'm not a big NASCAR proponent but the license gets you full coverage supplemental health insurance, a reduced pit pass fee and NASCAR point fund money.

I have heard from other sources that racers are required to purchase tires and gas over there at NSS. After reading your post, i went to the NSS web site, and under Pro Late rules it says that track fuel is REQUIRED and a minimum purchase is REQUIRED. I don't see much regarding tire purchases, but i would think purchasing them from the track would also be a rule.

Somebody just e-mailed me the Pro Late rules from Desoto and track gas and minimum purchase show up there also. How long before these tracks learn?

Well, I don't know about the Pro Lates or Super Lates but no other classes are required to buy fuel and none of the classes are required to buy tires from NSS (you do have to comply with the tire rule). I've raced there quite a bit last year so this is first hand knowledge.

That being said, I agree that these requirements are ridiculous and self defeating. It's all about psychology. Entry fee? Mandatory purchases? These terms conjur up negative and overbearing feelings about being forced to do something. No doubt, it keeps teams away. Realistically? As a racer, I'm going to buy tires from the track the night I'm racing to avoid hours of travel for that same purpose on a non race night. If it's a big race, I'm probably buying four anyway, required or not. Race fuel, same deal. Most racers are likely to buy it at the track because of the convenience. It's no big deal to spend a buck more a gallon if you have to drive your gas guzzler pickup an hour each way to get it somewhere else. Entry fee? Come on! Just take $50 away from each paying position. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out $1000 to win, $100 to start with a $50 entry fee is really $950 to win $50 to start. But the PERCEPTION you are getting fleeced that $50 will keep many racers away. Smaller field, crappier show. Bad for the fans, racers AND track operators.

Keep beating the drum on this one Matt. As a racer I'm with you 100% on this topic.

And don't get me started on "slab fees"...
