A change to dirt would be interesting and would probably be well accepted by that community, but I don't think it would ever take place at OSW due to their "business model"

    • Careful what you wish for.

In my opinion--the only thing OSW has going for it is track design.

What are drag strip parking lots made of again...?

Finally, they cannot come up with the coin for a light bulb, where are is the grader and the water truck coming from...?

It's a little hard to change a light bulb, without a light lol!

It taken out by woodpeckers and finished off by a storm a couple years ago.

Now, I agree it should have been replaced by now... But I guess (and assume) Ozzy doesn't feel it's needed since most of the events there are not directly affected by that 1 light being out so he won't fix it right now. It is what it is.

The argument "what are drag strip parking lots made of" means nothing to me. Most of the dirt gets knocked off driving from the pits to the start line and the tires get cleaned off in the burnout box. What wouldn't get cleaned off is dust from the dirt track blowing over onto the strip itself especially on a windy day. It just wouldn't be safe. There would be no way to keep that track dust free continuously and still have a smooth show running and absolutely no way both tracks could run in tandem.

        • Phil. thank you for posting Custer's flagpole... That stick is one sad testimony, fer sure.

Regardless, the $$ comment remains valid.

Re: Dirt track = parking lot.

Let's say they bulldoze the place and turn in into a dirt track, using available grey dirt--or let's even assume they anti up for some clay.

A couple of months later the gate/profits are still lacking.

So now, the grader is directed to flatten the place. It is now a parking lot.

          Congratulations, dirt proponents.

I would love a dirt track there, at least it would be oval racing. Wish in one hand, shit in the other

            • And see which one fills up first.

I believe it would be the second hand.

              • And Now, Something Completely Different!

                Hey, here is a thought.

Probably never happen due to insurance, leases, but most importantly egos...

At any rate, how about a race track cultural exchange program?

Yoho gets to run the Beethlo roundy track on Fridays, and Ozzy gets to run the Showtime dragstrip on Fridays!

Ownership and existing expense for each stays the same for their preferred type of racing on "their" track of ownership, and the "other" venue has ZERO rent for each.

                Theoretically, it could work!

That's not a TERRIBLE idea, but getting it done would be the hard part... You are right though, in theory it could work.

Was playing around with Dare Stocks at Stafford on occasion as well as Limited Sportsman at Thompson and Outlaws at Thompson part time. Going full time with Limited Sportsman at Thompson and Waterford for this season after taking last year off to focus on the LM team and build a brand new car. Limited Sportsmans are kind of a watered down version of your sportsman class. Very similar engine package, only real difference is camshaft, but we have to run on a 7" treaded Hoosier 790 or American Racer 705/706. Only G metric chassis except for 1 ford in our division at 3000lbs with 55% left weight and we all run open rears with 80s monte style bodies. It's an extremely fun and competitive division and by far the biggest car counts topping 35-40 cars weekly at times.
