The lighting there is dizzying light dark light dark light dark... It's far from consistent... Riverhead is worse... It's lit by construction lights lmfao!
Really, stop, comparing to,river head. They do weekly races, host major races in short track series, and get away with charging over 20pp . They went from being out in the idle of nowhere, to squeezed between buildings in modern times. The best seats are on the top of the building next door, if you can get up there. That track runs weekly, draws good shows.. And has it drama...

What it doesn't have... Is crickets.. Like osw has. .. Oh and no drag... It also doesn't have competition... Only track on Long Island.

    There is just no comparason

          • I vote Phil come down here, live on a trailer on the site, and make all these improvements. Please squeeze monies from lazy. He claims to be Donnie's best friend, but in all reality, he is just a voice on the phone that tells us how it is based on his interpretation of a conversation he has with a guy that is running a track with zero budget.

              • Well this has gotten fairly bizarre...

Remember, the status of the track has not changed, the lighting has not changed, and the 3/29 date is still viable.

The "let's all save/let's all kill Speedworld" discussion is also about the same...

Maybe time for what Sarah Palin said when they had to pry her stuck backside out of a freezer: "Chill, Baby, Chill!"

News Flash gramps... I don't really care what you think about my character... I am not saying anything here that I wouldn't say directly to your face. At least I am not coming on a forum trash talking facilities and bashing individuals while hiding behind a fake name.

Kat, I've been down there. I moved back here because I didn't see enough change in FL racing to warrant me staying there. As I said, I moved here to race. If I wanted to ride around in 5 car fields down there I would have built a back yard kart track to race with friends. Now, I have said it many times, FL racing is improving and I am excited as hell to see that. I feel that Scott is one of those at the forefront of that movement. Guess what... HE'S FROM HERE! He shares a lot of the same sentiments and thoughts I do, he just says things in a much simpler and more politically correct way. I have no problem being the one people love to hate. I'll gladly wear the black hat. But there isn't anybody on this forum that wants to see FL succeed more than me. I've offered to come down to work along side Donnie, but #1, I have a good career I am not willing to leave and #2 I don't see anything FULLY changing there unless one of two things happen, People like you and ST1 get behind the track and show a little support or Ozzy lets go a few bux to allow Donnie to do what he needs to do.

Tell me, why would Ozzy or Donnie put in 100% effort for people that publicly bash and trash them and the facility? Why would ANY business get behind people like that. You are seeing the result. In a lot of ways, social media and forums have hurt businesses like that. No, OSW isn't perfect and have not lived up to what they needed to do over the past 15 years. What started all of this, I don't know. But I do know what is going to finish it. Either the place is going to turn around, or the dozers will tear it down. You are going to argue me and disagree all day long but it really starts with the fans and drivers. If you support it, it will support you. But, that will never happen. Ozzy is about money, plain and simple. If he doesn't think he can make any, he won't spend any. As of now, none of you have given him a reason to think he can make anything.

I really don't care what you or anyone says, but FL racing is it's own worst enemy. 7 tracks running the same day of the week is the first nail in the coffin, that has to be spread out to give people some variety. Whether you believe it or not, there ARE many teams that would run multiple days of the week if they could and many fans who would attend multiple shows a week if they could. There will always be your regular track loyal fans and drivers, but if you spread it out across Fri Sat Sun, that would definitely be a big start. Fair Tech and similar rules across the board is another issue. There are just enough small differences division to division that guys can't travel without spending extra time in the shop changing their cars over. Not everyone wants to do that, so they stick to what they have and where they race. Another issue to me is always going to be tech. fair tech is crucial. We all want to feel like we are treated equally. If I roll into tech and they want to check my carb, and they check another guys track width or how their lead is mounted, how is that fair? Tech everyone in that division the same every night and move on to next week. If they check my carb and I am legal, the other guy who beat me may not be legal... Think about that. Promotion is another big issue. There are a couple tracks that do well like Desoto and Showtime, I even hear about them up here. But there are other tracks that really don't seem to try. OSW is one of them that has failed miserably at this now and in the past. Posting up on FB and Karnac is not going to reach a new audience... THAT is a lot of what promotion is all about, reaching new audiences. One thing we do here that is HUGE is we have division sponsors that help pay for purses. Our modifieds are sponsored by Sunoco Race Fuels, Mini Stocks by Monster Energy, Sportsmans are sponsored by Xtramart... Having that is HUGE! Our weekly sportsman purse is 500 to win, Mods 1400, Minis $300 and LM $700... WEEKLY... Sometimes double that for bigger shows. That helps take away from the tracks operating cost for the week and allows them to do more with less. It's all business. One last problem I see is regarding car counts and many echo this, too many like divisions with just enough differences that they can't compete with each other. It spreads everything so thin that way, it's time to start combining some stuff to get the car counts up and get people closer to each other. Drivers may not care, but fans do. No fan wants to watch 10 cars run around single file all night. That's not entertaining at all. Get more cars out there and you will have more side by side action. There is no debate for that.

Arguments and whatever aside, I'd still buy any of you people a beer, but you all need to stop shitting on those who try to help. What worked 20 or 30 years ago, DOES NOT work today. Stop being resistant to change and accept the fact that you are going in the right direction, but it needs to continue. Short Track racing is growing everywhere in the country right now, help it grow in FL too. It's in you guys control.

It's been the same people bitching about the same thing back to at least 2000 here OldSchool... If I didn't care so much about Florida and all you guys, I wouldn't even bother. But I guess I am cursed with giving a damn because I love FL racing and love the sport.

                      • Newport Richie, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater...

The west coast beaches are nice, and there is work in Tampa, and then there is Desoto, Showtime, and Inverness. Even Auburndale is a reasonable distance.

That is where the racing is. Somehow that is where most of the racing always has been.

If you want to race, that is the area. If you want to "wish upon a star", the Land of the Mouse is your place.

Keep in mind I am closer to Beethlo than any of the tracks named above.

I lived over on Conroy in Orlando for 2 years. I use to avoid OSW to go to Citrus Showtime etc for racing unless it was a big show at OSW. I still never saw the quantity and quality of what is up here. If the progress stays on track the way it has been lately, I think FL could be close to as good as it is here in the next 10 years. That's really a good thing. It's moving forward.

Take it from someone that has "been there, done dat"--different details, same game: It is far easier on one's nerves to figure out how & where to best fit in with the world than it is to try to get the world to fit in with you.

It is great to have principles, face challenges, set goals, be a man...all that.

But expecting change out of others--spouses, bosses, kids, the racin' community...that can be an endless boatload of grief.

Maybe you will bang your head against the wall less than I have along the way...and then again, maybe not.

Either way, it is all a tube ride down river. You may miss a rock, or hit a stump, but you ain't gonna paddle back up stream.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't lol! I'll never stop doing what I can to help racing down there. I'm not here to make friends, so it doesn't really stress me out when people shit on me for reaching out and offering suggestions and potential solutions. Until change is accepted, you will continue to struggle down there. Instead of shooting down ideas and suggestions, look into them and maybe try them. What works here won't always work there, but many things may and if it can help a little, that's better than nothing.

Although you may be able to handle grief from others, it still isn't as good as a piece of cheescake--but that is still beside the point.

                                The real grief is internal
--it is stressful when others/things don't change the way you would like them to.

For instance...I really would like you to "get" this, for (IMO) your own "good". But if you don't--now or ever...it is otay--not a lifelong "I will never give up" deal.

Most things are like that, in my experience.

Still have my own physical/spiritual projects that pretty much are a full time thing--and those I do have control over.
