I assume the 800s are not competitive with the current tire?

If they are close, perhaps they would let you run either, and the competitors could slowly switch over for the longevity...

That is yet to be determined. There is always the possibility they are, and there is a possibility they will be a couple tenths slower. But people need to look at it this way... If you sacrifice 2-3 tenths for better and more affordable racing, you are likely to draw more fans and drivers and in the end, you stand a good chance of making up most if not all of the loss on people buying tires on a weekly basis.

It might work, especially if you decided you have a fifth place (or etc.) car anyway while you are working on a new motor...

Let me get this straight... You are going to sit here and try to insult one of the most well respected racers on this forum, who is going out of his way and his own pocket to try and help the low budget racers be able to race more often as well as be more competitive, by calling him "dumb", wishing harm upon him and questioning his abilities? You sir rival George Carlin in your comedic abilities... What exactly have you brought to the table lately for Florida racing? I can already tell it's been absolutely nothing positive at all. I've heard many stories about you over the years and it seems your brilliant ideas have gotten you removed from more positions than it has earned you. So tell us again why we should listen to what you think?

                    Time Out!!!!

Good Lord, people! What is with everyone hurling insults today????

@Don- Don, I didn't mean anything by joking that you "get a cut" from Donny's tire sales. I was just making a joke and trying to have some fun with you. I would think with the way people mercilously attack you on this board that you would have a little thicker skin than that. Obviously I hit a nerve and I sincerely apologize. I know a lot of people have their opinions about you and how you ran things at various places but I have never witnessed that firsthand, nor have I ever met you so I have never formed an opinion about that or you. That wouldn't be fair. If you recall, I have never attacked you on here. I do respect your experience and the observations that you give from time to time (except teching cars differently which I don't agree with, but that's another topic). My suggestion for putting the support classes (Sportsman, Emod, Super Stock, Street Stock, etc.) is not something I came up with half cocked. Without having to rehash everything check out this thread:

                    http://www.realracinusa.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=30324

The 800 is not rock solid hockey puck hard like the F-70. It is an 8 inch grooved tire exactly like the 650S and 450S that we currently run, but just a little bit harder. It is being run all over the country on Pro Late Model type cars on down. In my garage I have a set of 800's that have 2 races on them and are from last season. They durometer at 60. I also have a set of new 650/450s. The 650s durometer at 50. I also have a set of worn out 650s (with three races on them) that are nearly bald and duromoter above 60. The 800s with 2 races on them have almost as much tread depth as the new 650/450s. Right now if you want to race to win you have to buy a new set of 650/450s every night @ $520+ a set. This is an attempt to save support class racers money so that we can race more, get more cars to the track and put on a better show for the fans in the process. Xracer54 was initially a non-believer in the 800s and brought up how hard and lousy racing on the 750's were. He has since found out that they ran the 800s up in NH in an 88 lap race and the tires were good.

@Phil. Thank you very much for the kind words but dude, I'm really not all that. I'm just another Sportsman racer in the field, but I'd like to see racing get somewhat back to resembling the "glory days" that people talk about around here. Call me an optimist, but I see things getting better all the time. I just want to do whatever I can to help (like you). My Dad (sadly gone now) always taught me to never be afraid of who you are, respectfully speak your mind and stand up for what you believe in. Blame him for all my posts!

On another note I never had the priveledge of meeting the late Jack Smith (founder of this board/website). But I believe his vision was for this board to be a positive place to sound off about racing in a respectful way for intelligent discussion and positive change. So whether you're new or old to this board let's honor Jack by keeping it clean, positive and respectful (as least as much as we can) while still having spirited debate. This board is moderated very well and kept from being a free for all. There's other message boards to go to if you want to "take out the trash".

Yes u did hit a nerve and you ment to or you would not have posted it.
I forgot it right after the answer.
If my skin was thin I couldent have been at the tracks for 50 years.
Most of the time when they bring my kids into this I get real mad..
I am sorry if I over did it but I do know a lot about tires and have tested for many years.
The 800 is not the tire for NNS. We did test harder tires there when I was there and it not safe at the least.
The split compound I didn't like eather but they started that after I left.
The 650 all the way around will work. The rights well ware the same but the lefts will last 2 times longer and that will cut the yire bill in half at least.

Now for the other post just how di I insult you with my post?
The part ware I told you u should be testing the tires?

Don, you're still not getting it. I didn't mean to hit a nerve. The joke was that you had a self-interest in NOT getting us on a tire that lasts so that you could make money off the the tires that wear out after one race. It wasn't meant to be an attack on your family. That is not my style. Once again, that was not my intention and I sincerly apologize if you took it that way.

I was not infering that you insulted me with your posts. I was actually talking about the comments AFTER yours on this thread (actually kinda defending you dude!) and more so about the insults aimed at good people on the pointless Stewart thread this morning (and was removed I'm assuming because of that).

I disagree with you on the 800 not being a good tire for NSS. It is not really that hard. They use it at many big fast racetracks with no problems. The 650 sucks. Even all the way around the car you would still be buying 2 tires every week and probably 4 every other week. The 800 is a fairly new tire. You have not seen it. Don't be fooled by the number. I'm pretty confident you will see it used at NSS next year. NSS is very interested in this tire and in having a tire back that can be used for "take offs" for the low budget classes. Recently a driver up in CT won in a Sportsman-type car on a big, fast, abrasive half-mile on the fifth week on the tires in a very competitive class. It is a good tire.

Now I know you don't want to hear this but I have met Jerry and I do consider him a friend. He is a hero to me only because he is one hell of a dedicated race fan and if we had a couple thousand more like him we would indeed be back to the glory days of racing. I know he considers me a friend from the kind words he has posted here. While his response may be vulgar, he was only responding to you wishing that you could see me "bust my smart mouth in the wall at NSS". I'd take offence too, if someone of my wished one of my friends harm. I know you two have a thing for each other but that has nothing to do with me. I enjoy meeting all the fine people involved in this sport and have met many through this board. I'd enjoy nothing more than meeting you too one day and sharing a SUDS. I'd be willing to overlook to the "bust my smart mouth in the wall" comment, LOL.

I would be happy to talk racing with you somtime.
Now I might explain I don't have a dog in the race so I can speak what I think now. for 30 years I could not .
Every time some one post a story about this rule or tire will fix everything there are people a tracks with little experance start changing rules. When rules are changed it only cost the racer money.
If the tire rule changes the tire dealer makes more money every time.
All the cars will have to buy a set. Also if the track is the only one to change the tire dealer has the only tires that you can run.
I know that some of the tracks in the north use them. We didn't test that # but I have tested that compound at NSS and it was bad. The tire got so hot from spinning it was comming apart in 8 laps
That test was 6 years ago and the track was green so maybe the test might be different.
This will im sure create a tire change and I hope no one gets hert before they get threw the learning curve.
