I went to put a "like" on Jerry's post. When your fan base of 3000 is split between 4 or 5 tracks on a Saturday night, each track will be lucky to get 600 to 750 fans. If you have a special race during the week, you're likely to get 1500 to 2000 of those to attend. The show has to be there though. The biggest issue may be the cars and drivers themselves. It has to be made worthwhile for them to maybe take off work a few hours sooner to get to the track on a weeknight.
BTW, I just read on Jayski where I think it was Ryan Newman who suggested NASCAR should run some Wednesday night shows, particularly during football season.

As I write this, TUESDAY August 5th, this is Kyle Busch Night at Autodrome Chaudière in Beauce, Québec. There is 5000+ race fans in there at $50 each. Tuesday night, 24 PASS Super Late Models, including Kyle Busch, for 150 laps on a gradual banked up to 20 some degrees quarter mile. Support divisions will include around 20 Vintage Québec, and 25+ Sport Compact.

A well promoted good show will always draw, anywhere on the map, on any given day.

Another Brett Deyo promotion. This dude knows how to run a show, dig up big money, pay everyone well.... and FILL the grandstands.

I've suggested to him the idea of doing an "independent" Modified show during Speedweeks while everyone is down here, possibly at Ocala.

His response was basically that he can't foresee having enough time in his life to dedicate to it.

It's a shame, as I can almost guarantee that he'd bring a bunch of cars, many of which don't follow the DIRT Car circuit.

          I tried......

Deyo is a race track genius.

I think one of the best things he's done is that he gives zero care who shows up. Many of the "big names" don't run his series, and I don't think he cares a bit. Deyo does more for the mid-pack and back-of-pack guys than anyone does. And becuase of that people will come to his races. A guy that I've never heard of named Danny Creeden won the last race at i-88 and took home almost 10 grand.

              I was at Sundusky(Ohio)Speedway

for the recent Hy-Miler annual weekend. It is a marquee event for the super modifieds and the opening night on thursday was a winged sprint, compact, street stock card with about 9 vintage race cars running an event also.NOW firstoff there were more campers, rvs etc. parked out in the front parking area of the speedway than I have ever seen at any short track race in my life. Most of these people stayed at their rvs that night because they came to see the supermods and they werent running that night. For a one buck gate price you got to see the card I mentioned above.Throw in one buck hotdogs, bottle pop and bottle beer and you had about 2000 butts in the seats that night(once again a thursday night, and a cool one at that)that probably swelled to at least 3000-3500 for friday and saturdays cards.

Last night, Thursday, a mid week show for big block Modifieds in Weedsport, NY drew over 50 cars for a 10,000 to win 100 lap race. There were so many cars they added a special non qualifiers race. That was a 12 lap race for $500 to win. Billy Decker won the $10,000 race. He also won a series race earlier this week that paid $5000.
Next Thursday they will be running another Thursday night race at Lebanon Valley speedway in NY. That will be a 100 lap race that will pay $17,500 to win. I can guarantee this race will be packed and the car count will be big.
These races are part of the Super DIRTcar series that runs all summer, on Weekday nights, throughout NY, PA, and Canada.
Why does this work there and it won't work here? I think it could work here.

Florida has much more going for it. They just lack the right person or organization to fix the racing in the state. They also have an attitude that it won't work here, so why even try.
