I remember many many nights having a blast drying the track slipping and sliding and we didn't have RainX!

I know drainage has been a problem out there for years now and it probably is going to take money to solve it. I realize this might be laughable, but is there any possibility of diverting some of that good Gov't grant money for storm water runoff areas and such? Any politicians you could get on your side? It's wasted in so many useless areas anyway let's get some diverted our way.

Exactly,,,We loaded up and headed to VSP even though there was a 60% chance of rain.The down pore came as expected.The racers ran the wet track in at $10/gallon fuel for about 2 hours.The show was completed and we got home at 2AM.

The key is that the fans/racers never had a doubt that the track was going to do their best to get the show in.

NSS last night nearly a 3 hour rain delay, but we raced (well, "they" raced, I rode around in the back, but I digress)

The track has been there 40 years or more.
It rains everyday in the summer for 40 years or more.

They've never had this many rainouts up until a few years ago. What changed?

There HAS to be a way of addressing the problems & coming up with a fix for it. I don't know of a single track in the country that has this problem on a weekly basis.

How about they put dirt on it in the summer so it can handle the afternoon shower, then turn it back to asphalt in the fall and winter! Year round racing!

Going to dirt would fix MOST of the problems OSW has.

Car & fan counts would go waaaaay up, the rainouts would be cut it half, it would be cheaper on the competitors to run there, and the traffic problem getting there wouldn't be as bad (racers don't have to drive through the heart of ruch hour to get there by 4-5:00).

And yet...... nobody in power is even willing to consider it.

There is something called a "wellpoint system" that would probably do it.
A series of water collectors driven into the ground and plumbed to a big pump, I think. Others are probably more familiar with them and the associated costs.

If you are on a tight budget, probably out of the question.

Still, I drive in the rain weekly on of course grooved tires and don't hit anything (well almost never). The lower classes could conceivably run those.

And I am pretty sure they can make it at pace car speeds.

Hey, the sporty car guys do it at well over 100mph!

All of this would need to be discussed with the drivers to see if they are game, but a larger-than-usual purse for their class may be an incentive (remember, the premier classes will probably be on the trailer, and a portion of their purse available).

You know I won't post much on hear anymore do to the fact there are alot of know it alls who have all the ansewers how to run a track or just know how to do it all . why dont't you guys go open your own track up and show everybody how it's done since you seam to know all about it. Sounds like a broken record you same bunch that get on here. oh yea by the way I am still waiting on the melbourne dirt track to reopen that I said would not reopen but was told I didn't know what I was talking about humm what happen? its like this osw canceled because of rain, weeping track, or what ever it didn't cost you anything to read it on here or facebook get a life and move on.

Maybe i need to visit the new owner. The dirt around the outside of the wall has settled into a trench against the wall that HOLDS water. A little dirt and some grading to once again slope the surface away from the track will fix that issue.

Melbourne just posted pics on their FB page that they have begun working on the Oval track. I think they said earlier that they had some issues to work out with permitting or something but they were working on it.

Dunno about the other "know it alls", but for my part it is intended to be no-strings brainstorming ideas for the track's review (some, no doubt, waaay outside the box...).

They can adopt, discard, or change them at will.

Additionally, my heart is in the right place and the ideas are free, and the goal is simple--success for the track.

Don't worry about the opinions of Shortdick1..... He does NOTHING but complain and has had ZERO positive thoughts or ideas since he darkened this doorstep.

Keep the ideas coming. There's got to be a solution that doesn't bankrupt the place. Benny seems to understand the general idea of what has deteriorated over the years to cause this..... AND the idea for a solution. Not being in the 'dirt' business myself, I wouldn't know, but common sense says that Benny is on to something.
