What is so exotic about this car? This is the car Webster drives? He is a real good driver, could that be it? Let me know, thanks vince

I've never heard " exotic " used to describe Sportsman cars. Those two concepts are mutually exclusive. But if you're getting outrun by " exotic " Sportsman cars that are passing tech, then you need to break open the wallet and go faster or stop complaining.
My own personal opinion is that i prefer stock cars that look like their street driven counterparts. And i know that's been a gripe of the fans for a long time too. They don't like the look of the ABC body Super Lates.
And while i think the 112 car is interesting looking, i sure couldn't say it's good looking. Same goes for the Syracuse dirt track Lincoln 112.
Many Sportsman cars look ridiculous. Mostly because the are just cobbled together with whatever pieces of sheet metal were laying around behind the garage. Mind you, i said many of them, not all of them.

Where in my post can it be construed I'm complaining? As for "passing tech", well that depends on the racetrack...

I think the offset GTO is especially cool looking.

This is the part, where Matt probably thought you were complaining! I took your post as just stirring the pot and or complaining. I would have to agree if the Z1 car is winning at certain tracks and getting paid, you might need to do some homework? Sounds like you are saying this Z1 car is legal at some tracks, but not others? I am not really up on the sportsmen rules, so could you spell it out a little better for me, Thanks Vince

You nailed it Vince! My intention was to stir the pot. As for what I have seen with my own two eyes, I will not divulge on a message board. Nor did I run to the techman that night he beat us all handily (with the wrong gear in the car). Daniel Webster is a great driver and I'm sure he could beat us all in any good car that is set up well. I don't have a problem racing with great drivers, it just makes you better. To be the best, you have to beat the best. I don't have a complaint because I won't run where they allow this car. But I will say that by making a car like this legal would require every other Sportsman out there have to spend a ton of money to be the same. Our class is on the rebound, we don't need people to park their cars because they feel that can't compete. We need more cars to come out of mothballs, not parked.

As for the looks of the cars, well I would love to see us be able to run something like this. Problem is that these bodies cost as much as a crate motor ($3K+). But I think you are in the minority, Matt. Most people seem to like the diversity of the look of the Sportsman cars. Besides, the there are no other affordable options.

Not to beat a dead horse. Daniel Webster is a very good driver, this same car has been driven by others, sorry Craig and not been near as fast. That being said I personally brought a car to USA International that pushed the boundaries of the rules and broke the cam rule. They made me add weight on the spot for the things they didn't like, which was a very narrow roof, and brake floaters. The 2 things combined were a 100 pound penalty. They told me we were too fast and the penalty was to slow me down. I was also told not to bring the car back with those parts on the car. We got fast time and won the race on that day, I also got DQed in tech for an illegal camshaft.

Ok so where am I going with this, the Z1 car has something that has never been allowed in a sportsman car, and with car counts being what they are, promoters instead of making them change there car, are just adding weight and saying just run it. I personally don't care one way or another, but Scott is not the first person to tell me he won't race if the Z1 is racing that night. They have changed a rule at citrus just for this car, which made them add 150 pounds in front of the flywheel.

I think the combination can be beat, but you will have to be on your game to do it.

Do I think if they just made the car fit the rules they wouldn't win, no they will still win, a lot, they are very smart with chassis stuff and Daniel can wheel a Racecar. It will just take away the bitching that has been following this car around.

So how come no one will come out and say what is so different with this Z1 car?

Full tube chassis, I am guessing.

                      That or engine setback?

                        rules

I've seen it first hand and its nothing more than we have been doing to our mod-minis for the last 5 years. Good to go in my book. Do your home work to your own car and get it faster. The car is fast, but you have to be at the tracks he has been to this year to understand why he won. Not discrediting what they have done with this thing at all, I like it, I think it is the future of what the class will have to go to. Started on the pole at desoto and won, beating the 56 and the 13, where they all looked evenly as fast. Then won at citrus this past weekend when the 56 and 13 got together so to speak.

People simple don't like the car because 1: it is different & 2:beacause it's fast. Look at the facts over the past 2 years:

I personally raced it at Desoto 2 times, the first time it was junk and we qualified 5th and ran 4th before the hood blew off and tire went flat. 2nd time we got it better, qualified 2nd to Atwell and rained out.

I believe Chris Fontaine and Kevin Boykin both raced it 1 time each at showtime running 4th and 6th.

Daniel raced it at Showtime 2 times running 1st and 2nd
Citrus last year where I believe he won 1 time, 2nd another, and was crashing with another driver racing his ass off for 4th another. Last week he was running 3rd when Brandon and Aaron wrecked. And admitted himself that he had nothing for the 56, he was 2nd best at the very best.

Lake City last year where him and aaron were very equal, just miles ahead of the rest of the field. But lets remember the field up there, including myself that night was pretty well not real great and typically don't win anywhere they go. I think Graver ran 3rd to them in a stock body, stock floor and firewall leaf spring Camaro.

And Desoto this year where he started on the pole and Brandon and Aaron ran 1/2in off his bumper all race.

Brandon Morris has constantly been faster when they've raced heads up, Aaron Williamson has been equal to or better a lot of races. Charlie Brown has been better some of the time.

Will you people not go run with those guys? Or are you just scared of what is different? or because its a "late model driver and car owner"

For good sakes people, I've witnessed first had, the car has 2deg of caster in the right front because that's all they can get with out cutting mounts off and bumps out well over 1/2in in full travel. Oh yeah and has a completely stock sway bar that mount over top of the uppers. Stock idler, pitman, and centerlink. And stock rubber bushings in the lowers.

Although that car doesn't have spring loaded, hydraulic, or rubber bushing type trailing arms as "Oldschool" thinks, if it did, they are 100% legal and a lot of other cars have those

JasonR, the example you give that "...It's nothing more than we have been doing to our mod-minis for the past five years..." helps bolster the point I'm trying to make. How are the mod-mini car counts now since this has been allowed? Terrible. Second, and more importantly is that it was ALLOWED. Changing the rules for one car (as Citrus has done) sets a dangerous precedent. Why do they get the rules changed for them, but not for all of the other guys found to be outside the rules that have been dq'd? Without order, there is chaos. This is not an "Outlaw" class.

And Beaner, I said before, I have no problem racing Daniel and I respect his talent. Aaron had no chance to beat him at Ellisville and the Z1 had the WRONG GEAR! The rest of us could not run with them, true, but Aaron ain't no slouch at Ellisville (Lake City, Columbia). At Citrus he carries an extra 150 lbs. on the nose and still wins! I actually think it helps our class to have drivers like Daniel (or any GOOD Super Late Model driver) run with us. It makes us more of a draw to the fans. But to give the impression that if your Daniel Webster then the rules don't apply as written, will just make guys stay home. Or even just making this stuff legal, will make guys stay home that feel they can't compete without making the change. That's not good for the class and it's not good for the sport. Just change the car to fit the existing rules and Daniel can still come out and wax our a*@es. Prove that it's not this different thing that's giving him an advantage and I'll shut up and eat my words! BTW, Beaner, nice run in the Super at Adale!
