A racer is as much a customer to the track as the spectators are. Only thing is if you chase the drivers away you will end up with no spectators.
I agree that this could have been turned into a fan frenzy. Here you have 2 cars at the back that feel confident enough that they can run well enough that they thought it was worth it to drive back to race. Get the announcer talking about those drivers and the fans will tune in to see how much passing they can do and if they can make it from the back. More proof that most track operators are clueless in how to get fans excited. This was where Chris Economaki was the man. As an announcer he was as close to PT Barnum as they came. An announcer is practically a salesman. You have a product and the announcer has to make the fans interested in your product.
I have grown worn and weary of track promoters games. Combined from 2005, 2006, 2007 and so far in 2008 I have run less races than I did in 2004 alone. I am not alone in my attitude towards short track racing anymore. just look around at all the empty space in pits at the track.
