The most common reason I hear from former racers (that still have cars on jack stands in the garage) is that "I can't afford new tires every week" that's a situation that needs looking into.

As long as tracks have a personal gain in selling as many tires as they can, there's no incentive for them to change their ways.

There's a track rule up in Maine (I think its Beech Ridge) that only allows 4 new tires the first night of the season. After that, they have an option of buying ONE new tire per week, or skip a week and buy TWO (pick your corner). It's working for them, and most racers can afford to stay within the guidelines.

Every class has someone who will throw on 4 fresh skins every time out, and everyone else is racing for 2nd at best. Talk about a buzz-kill to a racer, KNOWING you can't keep up.

Take the tracks out of the tire business, strictly limit the purchase of new ones, and a LOT more teams will show up if they know they aren't already out-spent before they even check in.

You don't know how bad this hurts.
Jerry is telling you what I have been telling the track friends of mine for 2 years now.
The tire sales wont go down with thgis rule because the car count will go up. This is the time to do it.
every one is siting home and getting ready for the 14 season. they will buy 4 tires for the first race.
the only thing is that 1 tire a race rule .
the tires have a bar code gun now to police the rule.
You cant let them save 4 new ones for 4 weeks then kick ass.
A new car can buy 4 the first night they come. That will get them there threw the year.

Jerry even a blind dog will dig up a bone now and then

ok Matt, Let me blow this up.

There is not a racer on the planet that race's for the FANS.

We all race out of pure selfishness, ego, etc...

Show me a racer that race's for the fans and I will show you a loser.

However, I will agree with you about the promoters creating all these classes, back in the day when all kinds of classes had full fields it was a SMART business move. Today someone needs to get creative and have the nerve to save the racers from themselves and save short track racing, by trying something other than what they are currently doing.

My prediction is that nothing substantial will change at either CITRUS or DESOTO both have new owners for 2014. Yes, they will tweak a few rules, meet with the drivers (which is like herding cats), fix a few amenities and then continue with a 40 year old business model.

            I hope I am wrong.

At least Jerry can string a couple of coherent sentences together. I can't really tell if you're for the rule or against it. Yeah, he's a bleacher creecher and some of his ideas are naïve, but at least he's coherent.

So back to the point. I raced under this rule at Uncle Burts years ago (1992?) and it killed the honest people, but I think with the RFID chips now it might be enforceable.

You're right. Racers race for their own reasons. Everybody has their own self interest at heart instead of the overall health of the sport. Hence, the show has suffered badly and is just about dead. And the racers and track owners don't really need fans or sponsors at all. But if we continue down the path we're on, racers better get used to paying four or five hundred dollars a night at the back gate just to pay the tracks' light bills or they aren't going to have a track to race at. The money comes from the fan's, the racers, and the sponsors. When your show can't attract fans and sponsors, guess who has to pony up the money. And it isn't going to be the track owners.

In a sense we are already there.

                    Pit Fee x 5 = $150
                    4 Tires-$525
                    10 Gallons Race Fuel-$110
                    Pit Slab-$10

Yes,lets blame the racers for they are clearly part of the reason for the demise of race tracks...What do you race???

Man, you have GOT to share photos of your entry level car. We've never seen a car that doesn't use tires. At least not a car that fits the rule book.

No.....let's only blame the racers who can't see the forest for the trees.

                            " I won't race if the rules don't exactly suit me "
" I won't race if I even suspect I might have to work harder or spend $1 more to go racing "
" I won't race if the track changes the rules "
" I won't race if I think the rules might be an advantage for my competitors, even if they're also an advantage for me"

You know what the fans' response is? " there's a race tonight huh, last time we were there we saw 6 classes with an average of 5 cars per class. What's playing at the movie theater tonight "
How about the sponsors, current and potential. " I've been at the track for the last 4 weeks to see if our sponsorship money is really paying off. I see very few cars in each class, they all look about the same speed, and they're all 40 year old Monte Carlos. No wonder there aren't any people in the stands. Let's pull out at the end of the year and find someplace that actually puts on a show to spend our sponsor money on "
