    Lizzard,

You obviously want to draw more cars to race your class and i applaud that.

The strictly stocks are open to many cars. I will not be on track in a cage-less Dodge Neon with your 3500+ lb vintage Monte Carlo. I know how heavy your car is because i used one for hobbystock and figure 8 yrs ago.

A hit from a car like yours to a car like that would be harmful and even fatal.

I once drove a 4cyl bomber (1 race) without a cage. Got hit passenger door and the other 4cly bomber bumper came all the way to my shifter. Imagine that hit from your TANK! My replacement car had a cage.

I will never be on track without a full again.

Cutting a little tin out of a door skin to put in 3-4 door bars does not take away integrity of the car.

You mentioned airplanes etc.........school buses don't even have seat belts.

There is always a certain amount of risk in life. On a track it is constant. That's why we use safety equipment.
Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

      Let's race these.....

There is a big difference in being afraid and taking measures to prevent injury and death. Normally you have well thought out opinions, this time, I dont think so.

35 years ago not knowing anything and feeling bulletproof

I built my first race car.It was a v 8 bomber a pretty little 64 chevy biscayne.Getting ready to pull out on the track for the feature that night i was irratated by the shifter knob spinning on the shifter so i threw it out of the car and rolled out onto the track..When i got in a wreck that night that old rusted x frame crumbled like a saltine cracker.Running the o.e.m. trans and motor mounts it shoved the shifter through my suit into my leg like a spear leaving a little perfectly round hole that is still there to this day.If it wasnt for the front loop of that cage i would be walking around today with the tailshaft of that saginaw trans sticking out of my ass.

As a fact, I have seen road race cars that had cages installed where more structural integrity was LOST by cutting to install the cage

I want to see these cars you speak of, cause i have yet to see a car that was so badly hacked up to install a cage that it became weaker.
lets all take a long ride on a short bus.

I quit fishing because no one was standing at the docks handing out money when i got back, why did you quit racing?

              I just wonder

How thankfull Kurt Bush and Ryan Newman both are tonight that both of their cars had good strong cages.

I doubt theyre thankfull since according to the ancient rednecks having a stock car without a cage would have been just as strong.

I agree it's a bad idea to race big heavy cars against small cars. And I also think it's ridiculous to even consider racing a car without a roll cage and fuel cell.
But this seems like the perfect time for a race track owner, any race track owner, to start a new wave in stock car racing. To wit; all strictly stocks have to be front engine, front wheel drive, 4 cyl. or V6 only. 1985 to present day. ALL IMPORTS ARE WELCOME. Advertise those rules around the local high schools and you'll see racing take back off again.

racing small cars against big heavy cars isnt bad at all, ALL cars should be required to have a minimum 4 pt cage with 2 door bars (if you can afford to race then you can afford to build or buy a rollcage.

right now most of the cars at osw and nss are gm metric and big body cars these cars are much easier to work on then the front wheel drive. osw has always let them all run they just are not comeing out anymore and when they did come out there there was only one front wheel drive car that could run in the top /win it was a ford probe . you can still find these cars you have to look for them .

I think tracks should race all 4,6, and 8 cylinder cars together and have a winner for each engine size. The all need a cage and door bars.

There are plenty of race shops that can install cages and door bars without spending a fortune.
