  • Tiger Tom

That pic of Tom looks to me to have be the dashboard of a '57 Chev. When I went to the U of M. in 1959, I had a roommate from Chicago that personally knew Tom from back up norf.

Yep.... That's the one I was looking for. But you were right about Richard Petty. Only he did it four years later.

Let's see if I can stump anybody with these questions..... I doubt it!

1 - Who was the first NASCAR Cup driver to post a "qualifying" speed over 200 mph?

2 - Who was the first driver to post the most victories in a single season (in the same year) in both the Grand National and NASCAR Cup series? Also.... what year did this driver accomplish this?

        • 1) Benny Parsons qualified for the 1982 Winston 500 at Talladega Superspeedway at 200.175 mph, which was the first NASCAR qualification run over 200 mph...

          2) Harry Gant in 1991 - Won five times in Winston Cup (tied with Davey Allison for most wins) and won five BGN races which was two more than Jimmy Hensley, Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jarrett and Chuck Bown who had three each...

Ancrdave...... Right on both...... Harry Gant was the man back in his prime. You never hear much anymore about him. I wonder what he's up to in his retirement days? I think I remember him in some sort of legends race at Bristol a couple of years ago. I remember somebody in that race getting hurt pretty badly after getting T-Boned after spinning out, but I can't remember who it was. I want to say it was Larry Pearson.

Here's a couple more to keep your brain's functioning......

1 - Who was the first driver (ever) to crash in a NASCAR Cup race?
2 - Who was the first driver to win a NASCAR Cup race in a car with power steering?

              • #2 is pretty easy, so I'll let other get this one...

#1 - Lee Petty - who crashed on lap 107 of the very first Cup race held at Charlotte Speedway... The tale is that the Buick he was driving was his wife's car that he drove to the track and entered the race with...

A win by Kevin Harvick's at New Hampshire International Speedway marked the 400th time a Chevy Monte Carlo crossed a NASCAR finish line at the front of the pack. Since the Chevrolet Monte Carlo's first year of NASCAR competition in 1971, the car has been one of GM's biggest successes in racing and the ball started rolling with a win (and a record set) by Charlie Glotzbach - with help from Friday Hassler - at Bristol on July 11, 1971.
