    ;-)

Kevin has proven himself. He took a dump and turned it into a successful wonderful race track. The name isnt important. the entertainment is and he knows how to entertain. Our full stands and pits are proof. words dont matter.
I hope everyone will give Kevin and Mike a chance. They have alot to do to get ready and things may not be perfect at first. From what I understand DSS needs alot of repairs to make it acceptable to drivers and fans. it will get done. ;-)

I wish Kevin and Mike and all the crew at Full Throttle Speedway every success...I have 100% faith... for me it will be so much fun seeing people i havent seen for so long. Looking forward to our first race at FTS...

take a look at the current pole results for changing the name. Overwhelming numbers to keep the Desoto name
There you go track owners. Your problems are solved! When in doubt, just poll a statistically insignificant group of partisans. Make sure the sampling is miniscule, and be sure to do what they demand.

The total number of voters in the poll represents almost the exact total number of race fans in the stands at a normal race night at Desoto lately, so the poll couldn't be more significant. 100% might be called minuscule but it's still the entire fan count.
And what poll do you suppose would be more meaningful than one taken of partisan race fans ( i don't imagine very many non-partisan fans read these sites, do you ) concerning a topic they feel strongly about.
I think what Boneman is saying here is that the best business model is one that ignores the customers' likes and dislikes. And Desoto has been very successful with that over the years.

              Successful....

              ....at being UN-successful I think you mean....lol

This nugget of wisdom brought to you by the man who has made an internet, message board career out of telling track operators how to manage their tracks......lol

Carol, please don't make me go back in the archives and pull out the umpteen times you told us all what a Wonderland the track in Punta Gorda was when Bobby Deihl had the wheel. I have no doubt Mr. Williams is a good guy and he has nothing but success on his mind for Desoto Speedway. But a couple of years running a track he took over WITH a ready made audience AND racers who were starving for a decent place to race does not represent a PROVEN grade on a resume.

It's not like any of this matters anyways.
I didn't buy the track. Rex didn't buy the track. Rick Anges didn't buy the track.
It was just a poll to see what KARNACIANS thought about the over-used, market-driven, new track name as opposed to the beloved, historically significant and nationally recognized, track name that racers old and young have associated with this track for over 30 years.
              That's all.
No one was expecting Mr. Williams to suddenly see the poll, do a face palm and say, "What was I thinking? OF COURSE it should stay Desoto Speedway - The South's Fastest Short Track....I must have been out of my mind!" and change it back.

              Nobody expected that to happen.

Why waste time with a poll when you can just ASK ME?

                  Matt

When Bobby first took over the track he had big ideas and he worked very hard. i meant it back then. He bit off more than he could chew and it all went to hell in a hand basket. things change Matt... you dont have to go to the archives. my mind is still fairly healthy. thats about all. ;-)
Have you been to PGS since Kevin bought it? it is beautiful and it was successful to the end. i really hope FTS will blossom and become the track it used to be. DSS was at one time my favorite outside of Lakeland. i remember when the stands on both sides were packed and the pits full of cars. well soon we will see that again. Im sure of it.

Although I'm not crazy about the name itself, I believe it was completely neccesarry to change the name. It's very hard to fix a damaged reputation, especially in business. The place had cancer, everyone knew it, and it would be tough to convince the general public that "we no longer have cancer". It's much easier and intriguing for the masses to find out what this "brand new Full Throttle place is all about".

Tylenol is now an accepted medicine again now. Who remembers when that was a tainted name brand? NOBODY was buying that brand for a looooooong time. They had the money to ride the storm out....Kevin needs a "full steam ahead" approach, not a bunch of "sorry about the pasts".

                      But...

....what will you do, Carol, if somebody (maybe one of those NASCAR diversity guys even) comes along with deep enough pockets, big ideas and promises of rose gardens and air conditioned grandstands for good old PGS? Will you drop DS like a rock again? (Remember, you USED to be a big King John cheerleader)

He (Kevin) should do just fine with Desoto. It's kind of like when he took over down south. He has a bunch of racers who have been waiting and waiting for someone to come along and rescue the track they love. Lots of cars parked not because of the track but because of the guy running it. Pee wee Herman could have bought the track and people would have still rejoiced. But even in it's sad state of disrepair it's still a better facility than PGS ever was. (Yes, Carol, I have been down there since Kevin took over)

So, he pretty much can't lose for the first few months. Just because myself and a few of the old school, Desoto Speedway faithful don't like his decision to screw up the name of the joint, it's not gonna cause him to lose any sleep, I can guarantee you that.

But wait til he tries to run that many classes..........xz

He will call the place whatever he wants to, ALTHOUGH OBVIOUSLY THE FANS HAVE SPOKEN. The good news is that the track finally has a new owner and this owner has a proven record in building up car count and fan base. If he can get the local companies back into the programs and on the billboards it's going to be a success.

                          OJ

I dont ever want to see any track fold up. for me it isnt as much about cars going in circles as it is about the awesome wonderful people ive met along the way. i have made amazing friends and have missed alot of ppl from desoto....i am in poor health right now and im havent even been to PGS more than a few times all yr. desoto is a long way and im not sure how that will work out.
i NEVER wanted DSS to fail. its far enough from PGS to not be an issue. I think its a great track and i dont know what happened to it. I am praying it is a huge success for Kevin. He has worked very hard and been thru alot of political BS..
I dont care who takes over PGS.. perhaps KARMA will prevail... ;-)....
I hope we can get along Matt... doesnt mean we have to agree. ;-) maybe we never will but it doesnt stop me from remembering the fun days.
