boy all these #s. speck SLM engine was dinoed down south 597hp then the same engine was sent to tampa engine builder and dinoed there and it made 640 then the same engine went to alanta and there it was 620 ? the dino # for most part are a comparson betwene 2 types of engines on the same dono. the dino # can be what ever the engine builder needs it to be to sell his engine.
I have never seen dinos raced or big toter race.
Mike the last thing you need is HP at inverness is the point. 500 is to much for all the tracks in Fl. NSS is the place that you could use a few more..550.
Travis K won many with 535 . that # came of Denis Boyds dino. Then he got a good one 575 and never was as fast as he was with 535.
The speck engine is better to race but its not the doin # that does it.
Now this will be funny.. try puting a fat crank or a big flywheel and a small ramp cam shaft in your big dollar light as u can build it toung hanging out fire breathing dollar eating pice of cast. Then you to might be able to hook it up.
The more you beat this horse the worst it gets for the non speck owners..
Put a 390 carb on them they said..Now they can hook them up even better,
Put a restrector on them.. all the good teams allready ran one. why ? they wanted the right tork and hp for the track that they wer racing at. When you were yelling foul they were working.. Mike Cope Came threw tecq the first race with a plate on hes car and im still laughing every time i read this stuff.
If you dont have one you hate them and if you do you love them..i get it..

Don..I was at that race it was Ocala he had a .095 restrictor in the Super Spec and the Kid sat on the pole ...his first time there. These guys dont get it I think Mike B. was there and could probably back me up on it.

BTW a crate car qualified 2nd at a 17.68 at NSS with a Super Spec on the pole at a 17.63 I think Russel was 3rd with a Limited..I could be wrong there but I think that is what he ran..I say these guys need to shut up and bring their cars to the track...corner speed is where its at.

Best thing that ever happened to Florida Super and Limited racing was the Spec Engine...Thanks to Don, Steve, Brian and a few other people.

I know I am a nobody in a SLM, but I thought I would add this. My engine is a 23 degree 9:1 with a 4412 carb, and when it was built by Tesar Engineering in 2003 it made 518hp on their dyno. I realize we still have a lot to learn about setup, but it is more power than we have been able to hook up. After running only a handfull of races this year, I agree that corner speed is the key to fast laps. I know for sure the reason we aren't fast is not because of the engine.

I bought a progressive spec in 2003 for $15,000 or I could have rebuilt and updated my steel head for $10,000. The spec ran for 8 years with 2 rebuilds at $6000 each. Sold steel head for $4500 to off set new motor cost.If you put the pencil to it over the last 15 years I have run a super late, my per lap cost is 1/2 with the spec. With the Fl Pro steel head the cost was $14 a lap
THE spec cost $6.50 a lap and it is still in service.I am sure crates are great but I doubt they are really cheaper.
          The money comes and goes.
The trophy we get to keep.

Its easy for a lot of them to talk the talk when they have not walked the walk. When they came out with the steel head idea i sad it would not work. there was no way to stop them from spending lots of money. they started out woth 450 hp at $4500 and went to 575hp at$37,000
The spec engine is and should allwayse be the same. If i was still there i twould keep getting cheaper.
The gm crate is going up in price and hp every year.
Tommy you have been there and you know that the spec engine was good for everyone.
Sure miss the old days when men raced and boys watched..
