Nope, good try for the era but wrong driver in this case.

Think of this as an earlier version of Jack Roush’s ‘Gong Show’.

                    • Where's Tunahead in all this? He seems to think I'm *the* Professor around these parts...LOL...and see, y'all got even *me* stumped on a few of these ;-)

What was the answer to the crashed #43? I guessed Maurice, in about '62 maybe, at Concord? Not sure if that's right.

Now...are we just doing Cup stuff, or are we throwing ARCA, LMS, Busch, and Late Model stuff up here too? ;-) I'd like to see a question answered or a pic ID'ed before we throw the next one up underneath it. Gets a little confusing when answers go up for a picture that showed up two days ago...LOL....

I'd have never guessed that was Lennie Pond in the 17 car; never knew he drove for Hamby. Thought I'd even looked up those Pocono races, too...just looked at the wrong year, I guess

Great thread, though! And yeah, thanks to whoever stickied it!

I don't have anything right off-hand to add...but will certainly keep checking in!

To answer Dave's question about that #1 car...the year is '73. Yarborough was driving for Junior at the time in the Kar-Kare #11. I don't recall Cale ever being in a #1 car.

DING, DING, DING Palmbayer wins the prize.

Billy Scott is the pilot of this Richard Howard – Junior Johnson owned
Monte Carlo in the 1973 World 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Scott, a short track racer out of Union, SC., won the right to
drive the #1 Chevrolet after winning the “Big Chance Special”
contest that fans voted on for two months prior to the race.

Scott started 23rd and finished 22nd in the race.

Here is the un-doctored version of the photo.

                        • I'll let everyone chew on the #43 picture for another day... I have another picture that goes along with that one but I can't load it on KARNAC from this Mac, so I'll do it tomorrow from my PC at the other office...

Here's another piece of trivia to see if anyone remembers...
Dale Earnhardt won the 1990 IROC race at Talladega... What was interesting about this event pertaining to Earnhardt... and it had nothing to actually do with the cars in it or the race itself...

The Lennie Pond car had me fooled as well, so I called him and confirmed it,lol.
Were not doing just cup stuff, throw up whatever you like, even late models are fine as long as it's someone we all might guess, meaning if I threw up a dirt racer from Va. you guys might never guess it, know what I mean?
