...and...I guess nobody read Jerry's post, either.

    Carol - Mark.

You guys are arguing about two different dates.

Carol is/was defending the March 5th date for a Dennis Boyd Memorial race (why it's at Punta Gorda, when Dennis was from Orlando, I don't know - we'll save that argument for later).

Mark came in asking *why* they scheduled up against the Governor's Cup on November 19th.

I still haven't seen anything in this thread about *that* date (in November). The Governor's Cup has been held the third weekend in November for, oh, I don't know, since it was held at New Smyrna (Maybe? I think there was a few times it was held on a date in October...). And that's been since 1988.

Then...someone was asking something along the lines of "well, the fans can choose which race to go to (as well as the cars/drivers)". I'm kinda confused on that one, since if the PGS thing was put together by/for Wayne Anderson's "new group" (someone said "former FAST Series"?), do you think Wayne would a) go run "his" race at PGS, or b) go run the Governor's Cup at New Smyrna 250 miles away on the same night (I'm probably exaggerating on that...)? Wayne knows he can *run good* at New Smyrna, even with all the good cars there.

My *opinion* is that...*if* the dates stay the same for both parties involved, where do *you* think fans/cars will go? To the more prestigious (i.e., more $$$) Governor's Cup, or to PGS? Cars/drivers from southwest Florida that know they can't run well at New Smyrna *might* stay home and run that 6-Pack race, thereby leaving PGS with a sub-par field of cars (the "big dawgs" will more than likely be at New Smyrna), maybe a *small* field of cars, and not very many fans in the stands - and then, again in my opinion, everyone will tag the series "a failure" because they scheduled up against the Governor's Cup to begin with.

    I dunno. What's all y'all's thoughts?

im not arguing. ;-) i saw the post about march 5th and i made the mistake of thinking kevin had cemented the Boyd race. so when mark said something about "tracks working together" i thought he was accusing me and kevin of scheduling Boyds. i had no idea it was a 6 pk. race.
if someone had been kind enough to explain my confusion instead of insulting me for being senile or a speeding loco.motive i would not have let my claws out in defense.
so there is actually no reason to add to this silly thread that gathered about 1500 readers. lol no harm done to anyone...the posts about rick bristol are far more important. he doesnt get on here and talk Bs. HE DOES WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL DO AND HE DEVOTES THE ENTIRE YR. DOING IT. HE HELPS PEOPLE! thats worth the message boards attention.
this is a sport where ppl thrive on wrecks and fights so i guess we have to accept the fact that that type of adventure spreads over to where we gather to talk about all that stuff...lol i dont thrive on wrecks. i thrive on kids growing up to be awesome drivers, i thrive on all the good things ppl do to help each other, i thrive on an exciting race where ppl pass from the back to the front for victory, i thrive on the bravery of the drivers. they entertain us... theres far more good things to talk about but i guess it isnt really exciting enough...;-) i made a mistake once......... again... big deal. more prominant ppl than i have made mistakes...lol i can live with it...
God bless all your pea pickin little hearts. may 2011 bring you happiness and good fortune.

things that kill short track racing

track owners and promoters not doing what needs to be done. as in, doing things themselves. they are the ones that sure make all final decissions since this has a lot to do with their p&l outcome. esp. letting someone that does not get paid do things of importances.

people that are not employed by the track thinking that they have a important role in running the business. if their role was important they would be on the payroll.

the internet. everyone wants to tell the tracks how to run their business.

owners and promoters reading the internet.

people like me that think I know alot of stuff and wish I could spell correctly.

Now we got somethin' abvout May of 2011. Now what?

Just givin' ya a hard time, Carol. It was misconstrued (that's "misunderstood"...) as being conflicting dates; I still hope you guys get all the dates worked out.

Y'all have a happy freakin' New year this weekend. Drive *FAST* (on the race track, that is)....and drive safe

            darren

i was not trying to go over kevins head. he is way too intelligent for anyone to take advantage of him. he is a very successful businessman. i asked him if we could do a memorial race for someone really loved in this sport. he said he didnt know Dennis but he agreed he would help me by having the race at PGS. i had some ideas i wanted to impliment for a charity i love and he agreed it was a good one. the ball was in his court but i wanted to participate as it was a potential good deal for PGS and he wanted to do it. i asked him if i could help and he said of course. that is all that happened. please dont try to tell me that 100%er fans cant be of some help. we pay ALOT of the bills and we love racing enough to want it to be profitable for our tracks and our drivers. it is the track owners prerogative to listen or not to listen. kevin will NOT allow anyone to make decisions for his business but he is not foolish enough to ignore ppls good intentions. he is smart enough to know when someone is trying to take his authority to limits. he knew i wanted to help fill the stands and make the race exciting for the drivers and fans. he has the resources to do things i couldnt possible do. i had a dream i wanted to come true and i get so passionate i sometimes make myself sick....lol i make mistakes darren but i also make a difference... because i care. i probably took your post out of context because of some of the others. but i agree with you 100%... it is the owners income, the owners business and the owners ultimate decision... right or wrong thats the way it is and should be.... but it is the workers and the supporters who are willing to help and a race track can never get enough help from ppl who dont have their hands out waiting for something in return. ppl who simply want to help and be part of the greatest sport in the world!
there ARE egos involved and some ppl dont say thank you. they take over and want all the credit... its all good as long as the final outcome is good for the cause.

              Just my thoughts

If the track owners would just have one person that does the posting on the message boardsor there web sites you would not have this big problem. if this was in place we all would know anything else posed by other people may not be the true facts on the matter.

I will say when posting you better have it all right or people will pick it apart on these boards that is for sure.

There is a lot of problems with Florida Short Track racing but people really dont what to hear what the problems are and slove them to make it fun and exciting again to race and for people go to the track.

Way to many egos is one big problem in Florida Racing>

                Gary...

because this message board was created for ppl to do what they are doing. in fact... advertising is REALLY against the rules. advertising makes money and Jack doesnt make a red penny for a track posting what their races are.. he allows it so tracks have the benefit of filling their stands and pits.
do you REALLY think what a few ppl say on here is changing racing... it isnt.....it simply allows friends to exchange views and other ppl to vent!
anything written in error on this board CAN be fixed.... as long as the ppl who make the mistakes have some nads to admit they were wrong... ;-)

Now this is something we both agree on Darren! Finally!

I'll add a bit to this, and ask a question. Why are the elderly making the decisions around here?

I would say between Nerone and Wicks it would seem they own the joint. I see what the problem is here, the old guard refusing to except the fact that it's going to be 2011 in a week and getting with the times. BTW Darren, don't worry about spelling, Nerone has ya beat.Lol.

While I lived in Fl. for over 23 years, I never missed a Gov's Cup, guess which one I would go to if I still lived there?

                        Carol

Not jumping on nothing the post I put on here about just my thought did not mention anybody name or you and Kanac.

I was just giving my thought on what could sovle a problem and what is wrong with Floirda Racing.

When your name is not mentioned in a post why do you put yourself in the middle of post that really was not ment directly to you. It was just there thought. Thats why I asked do you read and understand post before you write back. I still ask the same question Carol.

For years I have had to put my back against the wall Carol and I dont need to carry big stick either. I really this this comment was very uncalled for Carol.

i am NOT going to discuss this on this board anymore. its crazy. everything gets all screwed up by misunderstandings or differences in opinions. no one can be nice when someone makes a mistake. they thrive on insulting. if you want to talk, you know my number but i dont think theres anything we havent covered. this is a huge waste of life...
                            carol aka oz

One thing everyone seems to have forgotten here... the TRADITIONAL date for the Governor's Cup race at Golden Gate Speedway was the first SUNDAY in November... There is no tradition to the current dates...
