If for no other reason, this discussion had value because it brought things out in the open. This was a rapidly moving story; I heard it from three people at the truck race last weekend, so it was hardly a secret.

On another board, Tonya the VSP GM, made what I thought was an ambiguous statement on Monday, and then came out clearly today and said that 2011 is a "go". If that is the word from the top, then terrific. I hope they rebuild and have a great year.

But you'll never convince me that it wasn't up in the air.

I've been following the rumors for a bit also. We all hear some and we decide what to do with the information. If it doesn't affect me, I will wait and see what develops. If it does potentially involve me, I'll go to the source and ask a few questions. Ocala's rumors could affect me so I asked Mike a few questions. I was reassured. Volusia doesn't affect me so I'm just watching. I do find it interesting that the World Racing Group seems to be changing it's operating model. It's a fact they have already leased a track in NY and apparently it's verified they are looking to do the same with Volusia. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few years with dirt racing. World Racing Group is a large player in dirt racing. This is a story that should be followed.

I remember that Rick, I used to be pretty close with Bubba, and since we're on the subject, remember, every single year there were rumors about Sunshine, usually started by Bonnie herself but none the less, it got to where we bet on what the rumor would be each year.

Just to make it clear, I never said that the story about the possibilty of there being no 2011 racing season at VSP was false, nor did I say that the story about the track being leased was false. I only heard about that part over the weekend at Orlando for the first time as no one from VSP told me anything until that time. I personally wrote to Tonya and got an answer from her explaining the situation as best she could at that time, and I was satisfied with that. What is false are the rumors that preceeded all of that which were disproven after some time, such as VSP being a NASCAR track or that it would be paved again. As far as leasing VSP goes, I understand that it remains a very real possibility with a very knowlegible and experienced promoter in negotiations with the owners to do it. Eitehr way, leased or not, there is going to be a 2011 season at Volusia, because Tonya said so. I have no reason not to believe her based on "reliable sources" who keep feeding "information" to other people.

Just to add some fodder to the rumor mill, although this doesn't affect me either, I read on a Northeast racing board tonight of a person (Bobby Richards) that is looking for investors to buy "Bradenton Motor Sports Park in Florida". He apparently has the money to buy it but wants 3 investors to go in it with him. I believe the price was $2.9 million. That's for the oval track and drag strip.

BTW, Memphis sold for $1.9 million Wednesday. Purchased by the Palm Beach track owners. So 2.9 million seems a little high for Bradenton in today's market.

FYI "Bradenton Motor Sports Park" and "DeSoto Super Speedway" are two seperate entities abd cannot be sold as a "package deal". They have two seperate owners. "Bradenton Motor Sports Park" is the legal name of the Dragstrip.

i don't know know if that price is high or not

and i 'm beginning to wonder about the ecomony after seeing a 4 door think it was a dodge or 1970 something on barrett jackson go for 600.000 dollars then four or five more go for four to five hundred thousands surely a speedway if right person wanted it those cars were nothing special just some one wanted them

that would be just pocket change for some people

Ron, you think buying a car and covering it up for a few years and then sell it for a profit, is compared to buying a racetrack. A track owner has to hear gripes from fans, drivers, crew persons, track officials, etc. and then hear from people on message boards talk about how to run their tracks from 500 miles away. 'IF' I hade the money, I'd buy the car.

I thought they were owned separately but thought the name may have included both. Apparently this buyer hasn't researched it very far. Funny thing, it was posted under the "Press Release and Announcement" portion of the board.

Yea it is stupid the people who own lakeland will not sell just the land with the track, they are going to build a trucking place.(but if I remember right one of the reason they didn't build anything when they first bought it is that there was ALOT of oil and gas in the ground from the track and they could not get permits)

You just don't have a clue do ya Darren? I have never and will never stoop to the level of starting rumors. I'm can pretty much assure your un-knowing a$$ I know more than you ever will about Sunshine among other things related to this story. I'm not in the business of spreading rumors, gossip, lies or truths from other peoples mouths so you'll have to chew a little harder, and there you go with the " people like me" stuff again, you sound like a racist.

Darren, did you say Sunshine Speedway reopening or something else, when i look at the aerial, it`s look like a toll booths trainning camp there. Drag strip still there, my neighbor goes there on the fun night, I think it`s Wed. or Thur. night.
