If you don't like the wooden bleachers, buy a padded seat with a back at Walmart. I think they are about $10. And the heat, it's Florida, it ain't gonna change, and if it does, we've got more to worry about than racing.[/QUOTE]

I don't mind the wooden bleachers but it might be nice if they were cleaned every now and then and I have the cushions. As far as the heat is concerned lived here 50 years think I figured that one out too.

      tccaz,

I agree, maybe the wood could use some cleaning or maybe even a coat of paint. I'll go a step further and recommend some board replacement, but we must remember, the track is just trying to survive the ecomomy.

Try a *huge* stand-alone Super Late Model weekend. Two-day show, heat races (NO time trials!) and maybe three support divisions on Saturday afternoon, that way people can make it to New Smyrna if they wanna go watch their show; then on Sunday, a big 200-lapper for the Super Late Models, including pitting in the infield - like the good ol' days. If Auburndale can pull 25 of these cars for a decent show, and the Orange Blossom pulled almost the same number (and I'm sure a few were different drivers; Scofield, Choquette, BJ, Colangelo, and a few others weren't at the 'Blossom), pay back through the whole field, maybe some tow money, start the fast guys toward the back. Do like I seen years ago up north - have the polesitter roll a die, and invert ten cars plus whatever comes up on the die - so that a MINIMUM of 11 cars are inverted.

We gotta do *something* to get this track pointed in the right direction again.

Are you even listening to what your saying???? No one wants to come even for free to watch 3-7 cars/trucks in a race. Until you fix the problems with unfair tech, lousy pay outs, and the tire expense you will not get full fields. I personally have witnessed seeing officials from OSW/NSS at Auburndale Speedway and they could not believe the amount of cars per class. The tech does his job, the track pays well, and guess what the tires last 7-9 nights competitively. So think again the driver promotion only works if they actually have cars, why would you want to bring potential fans out to see a lousy show? Then they would never want to come back.

EXACTLY ! well said Fastlane . right now any suggestions or ideas to promote osw or nss is a total waste of time . there is nothing to promote . they have to suck it up , completely clean house , and step up to the plate like auburndale and citrus . but will they ?????

                  seriously?

Citrus had more modifieds than New Smyrna had cars last week, and you're going to keep talking about changing the night that OSW runs?

do Friday nights help OSW? no. but it's not the primary problem and it never has been the primary problem.

                    Blah-Blah-Blah-

If OSW invested a few dollars in purse money, would that make drivers show up ? I doubt it. Most drivers want to race in front of packed grandstands and sponsors want all the exposure they can get.

The track can not have decent payouts with empty seats and the track can not have decent payouts with free admission grandstands. So, we might as well forget about making a living racing at short tracks - that day has come and gone a long time ago.

Most drivers are racing for fun and these guys and gals are what is keeping short track racing alive.

In this ecomomy, people are looking for things to do that are free. OSW could use the bad ecomomy as a reason to offer the free admission.

If you care to make a dare, I'll make a bet with you. Now you sit down on that stump boy and I'll tell you what - Free admission will fill the grandstands.

Free admission won't help if nobody knows about it. The track has never had a budget to advertise in the Orlando area, and I doubt Robert is going to start budgeting ad money to advertise that you get in free. And I kind of agree with the posts that suggest if you give away your product, it's hard to go back later and charge for it. A $5 "special summer rate?" Yeah, that might help a little.

Even when OSW had a decent car count, the crowd has been lousy -- at least in the 10 years I've been going. The Crash A Ramas show that people know the place exists, but they just aren't coming back for the weekly show.

Let's face it: I think we've proven with all these "How to fix OSW" forums that there's no way to do it without money. Money to advertise, money to pay purses, money to maybe attract touring series. Unless Robert wants to dig deep -- and I don't see that happening, and I'm not sure I blame him -- it's going to take a new owner, a new promoter, or at least a partner who sees some future in the track. Bottom line: You gotta fix the back gate before you can fix the front gate.

It can be done. Rex turned around Auburndale, and I honestly didn't think it could happen. It was not that long ago that we would sit on the top row, eat some cheese nachos, then set the little paper plate on the stands two rows down, and take bets on how many roaches would climb out from between the boards and descend on the cheese. The record was 15, and it took about 10 minutes.

Did anyone see how many fans were in the stands on fathersday at NSS ? They offered free admission for the dads, and the grandstands were full, but they did advertise.

OSW needs fan and driver recognition. The fans need to have a driver they know and follow for the racing and off track drama. The off-track drama usually can be found on popular racing forums and radio if available. The whole reason Bowman Gray fills the seats is for these reasons - on and off track drama, and driver recognition. They can't wait for more. Boneman is the perfect example of a guy that can stir up some drama ! Just look at how many people follow the drama, for that matter, look at how many views are on this topic- 600+ and counting.

Advertising - does not have to be expensive - it will take a little work on the drivers part by getting their racecars out in the publics eye and talking about the racing.

OSW can be saved - it will take a little effort from the track and drivers - so far I see no effort from the drivers - much like the same few drivers that take their cars to the front stretch for the autograph sessions - the drivers with their cars on jackstands are part of the problem -

The only way to find a solution to the problem - is to try things that are different.

Free admission to the weekly show - might be a good way to get people interested to come back and buy a ticket to a big event -

Guess I'm wasting my time here and giving away my good ideas, maybe I'll just lease the track when it closes and prove free admission will fill the grandstands, increase concession sales, build car counts, and bring in sponsorship for the track and drivers. Then I can say I TOLD YOU SO !

Hey TUNAMAN, can I borrow some money ? I want to lease a racetrack.

Straightup - Did Tunaman get your password - I know you don't really think anyone is making money racing at Citrus or Auberndale. Sure, they might win some money - but I bet they ain't making no profit racing.

Come to think of it - All other tracks would be worried if OSW started free admission - people might not be driving all the way from Orlando to these other tracks. Now, I see the hidden agenda for the negative comments.

It will probably never happen anyway - might hurt the NSS fanbase which would be a conflict for FASCAR.
