  • Need Your Opinion! ¿what Would You Do?

First of all it was a pleasure to meet so many people at citrus last week. BONEMAN, Straight UP, Ocala76, good to see Gcue, and good to see andy again, and the rest of the gang. Its good to put a face with a name, even if your face is on some super stud body. I looked on Karnac this week and saw where auburndale speedway was having a 1000 to win, 40 lap OWM no entry fee race.

    Open Wheel Modified Race

Saturday Night at Auburndale Speedway ***Open Wheel Modifed's 40 Lap Feature $1,000. to win*** NO ENTRY FEE. You will be running heat races.
For more information call Rex @863-287-4344

I decided friday night lets give it a try! so we prepared the car, changed the oil, gears, tires, carb etc. OFF WE GO!!! Arrive at the track, unload and get ready to practice.. now take into consideration 5 people in the truck $25 a piece, $25 to register your number, go to register car where you would normally draw your pill to determine start position for heat, but i was INFORMED that since i did not attend there LAST RACE that i COULD NOT DRAW A PILL!! WTF!!! YOUVE GOT TO BE KIDDIN' ME! next time you advertise a race maybe you should let the average weekend warrior know that if you wernt at my last race you go to the back no if ands or buts! well after it was explained to me by rex guy the reason for this rule ((something that they started this year)) because they havent had this rule the last 3 YEARS so I decided if I had to start dead last... i might as well LOAD IT UP, and head for HOME.. and thats EXACTLY what i did. $300 later and NEVER FIRED THE CAR! Now i dont make a living racing, i race because i enjoy being somewhat competitive and the commaratitty of my fellow racers! Hello people if that is going to be your new rule, you should post it when you advertise a special race, im all for inverting, qualifyin', and whatever else makes it interesting, but DONT pentalize ME because I CHOOSE TO RACE WHEN AND WHERE I WANT!!!

Hard to get cars to come from out of town to try your race track when you know you have to start last......especially at a place like A-dale.

I thought, listening to some of you that kind of thing only happens a NSS??
P'S! I would of probably done the same thing OR if I thought my car was real good, I might of run and beat some of them just for the satisfaction. I don't understand that rule, I guess trying to reward the ones that race every week, but if thats the kind of welcome they give to someone that can't race every weekend, I think the rule is counter productive to the track, but what do I know??

In my opinion, you did the right thing, plus let everyone know what to expect in the future. Also, you did it in a nice way. billy

                Rex Guy-OWNER WHAT?????

I guess he, should we call him a human being, NOT! Is not really the person he tries to be. He should of atleast offered your money back for the pits or atleast half of it. Goes to show you why people go to Citrus and not that tiolet hole at A-dale. They have screwed so many drivers that have come to race there. If it wasn't there REGULAR drivers you don't even get scored! They hate competition...
Sorry this had to happen to you Tony. See ya at Citrus!
                Safe and Good Luck racin.....

What Crybaby did not tell you was that you race your way into the feature from the heat race. He was not going to automatically have to start in the back of the feature. RACE YOUR WAY IN!!!!!! Last I checked we don't practice pulling pills on thurs night!

Sorry you felt that way Tony... First off, this was not a "special" race, it was the fourth race of the season for points. Carol's wording may have made it seem "special" to you... Since it was your first time there this year, that's the way the HEAT RACE line-ups are set (pill draw with new drivers starting at the rear - I believe it's in the rules) - same for any other class Scrambler to Sportsman. The only difference is if there is qualifying....
Although I hate time trials, maybe this is a solution for guys like you that don't want to run each Mod race... It might attract more cars... TT and a pill draw for the first six or eight...
Again, you would have started at the rear of the heat race only and your spot in the feature line-up would have been determined on your finish there... To penalize guys like Morris, Bookmiller, Bechtelheimer, Wright etc. that show up each time we run by letting you draw a pill... I'm sure some of the guys could care less while others want the rule to be as it is...
What if we lined up races by points??? That's the way it used to be done at tracks like Golden Gate and Sunshine and I watched guys like Dave Scarbrough, Frank Riddle, Jimmy Cope and Dave Pletcher battle their way thru the field each night. Any "new" drivers started at the back because they had earned no points. If you feel you have to start on the front row for every race, then you aren't much of a "racer" in my book. This is not a personal attack against you Tony - I don't even know you - but I know a lot of "drivers" who just don't seem to want to pass anybody and cry like babies if they gotta start in the back.
We have a couple of "problems" in the OWM at Auburndale... The biggest one is the quality of the race cars that show up... They are all top-notch cars and drivers... Anybody in that field Saturday was capable of winning the race... That makes it tough because of the difficulty of passing... There's been a lot of discussion about using bigger tires, but what about the cost factor there... Again, trying to keep the cost down... good idea or bad idea??
Look at Bobby Blake... He won (from the pole) the first race of the year but his pill draws have been terrible the last three times and he's barely been able to crack the top ten... But... I don't hear him complaining.....
So, to sum things up... Let's do a little forum here.... Would running time trials each race for OWM be more fair and maybe make for a better show? Let's hear from the drivers, owners and fans right here... If you don't want to post here, shoot me an e-mail (announcerdave@usa.net).... I'll pass everything on to Rex and we'll see what we can do....
Tony... I don't want to see you upset... you've done a ton to help promote things this year, especially the special events at Citrus. You have an incredibly sharp race car and we want you to run it at Auburndale... Let's work up some solutions rather than just create more problems....

                      OWM race

First I post what I am asked to post, sorry if you took it the wrong way, but it was not a special race and no where did I mention that it was. I said that it paid $1000.00 to win. If it is special I will tell you so. I have been around racing all my life. I try to help promote the sports, not destroy it or a track. I don't need other people to apolize for the way you read the post. If your have a question concerning the race you are always given a number to call. I starting a new post to give details for this weeks O.W. M. race.

Dave, I don't like time trials ether. But I would rather use that to start the race. Top ten fast times redraw for starting spot. every driver pulls his starting spot in top ten. That way you have to earn your pull.

To ANCRDAVE: First of all dave thanks for your response, your right i used to sit in the stands at the "gate" and watch those same drivers come from the back to the front. But A-dale aint the gate nor sunshine speedway and as you stated "anybody was capable of winning that race that makes it tuff because of the difficult passing" thats what im trying to say! look at your last 4 winners and where they started. ?(("the pole")) Bottom line its the luck of the pill draw, which i was denied. my badd for not reading your rules. i could of pulled number 999 and had no problem starting LAST in the heat. youll never get more cars to come to your track knowing when they get there that there going to start in the rear of the heat, and how they finish the heat will determine there starting position. sir you dont have to listen to me, just ask YOUR DRIVERS that support your track week in and week out and ill bet you majority would rather qualify and then let a FAN roll the dice to determine whether your going to invert 1 row or 6 rows or something simliar.. and mrs. Andrews.. i meant NO DISRESPECT to you AT ALL.. i just assummed that if rex was paying 400 more to win and charging NO entry fee that, that was special. and again ma'am no disrespect to you. and dave the last two races i ran this year i started 17th and 21st and never said a WORd! u know why? because i put myself there by poor qualifying and a crappy pill draw. dave dont worry about me bud, i aint upset, and your right i have helped some people out with some special races this year, you know why? because my heart told me that is was the right thing to do.. just like it told me to load my car back up the other night!

Tony... I've heard from two other drivers by e-mail today that haven't been able to run with us but plan to by June They say they have no problem starting in the rear their first night there although all five people I've heard from today say they'd rather time trial... I'm sure once all minds have been heard from, there could be some changes made... Maybe even have Tony C. in the field !!
