    Short tracks only

Matt's (aka OJ)Dad, Hank Thornton, passed away at DeSoto Speedway after finishing his race, winning and going to the front side. Remember it was in Oct., but can't remember which year. Very good person and loved racing! He repaired several of my V.W.'s.

      Thanx, Nancy....

It was Oct. 27, 1991.....and he did win his heat and feature that night before suffering a fatal heart attack afterwards. I think, though, Rog was asking who had been killed in a crash on the track.

Thanks for remembering the old man, though. I can't believe it's been so long ago now. He was a great person and was/will always be my hero. Really regret my son never getting to meet his grand dad. But thankfully, I've got lots of folks to let him know what kind of man he was.

Thanks again, Nancy, you're the best!

      Matt (HTC jr)

Wonder if Video Bob has any pix's of Hank winning a race? He did know his VW's. Remember once he had rebuilt my VW motor and a few nights later Richard flipped it over coming in from the beach. Well, a few days later your Dad was at the Skillet and told Richard if he would of told him he would of put tires on top of the car...everybody laughed!!! That car was unbelieveable. Once I got it stuck around a pole at Jake's backing up....the fender sprung around the pole somehow..go figure..anyway Richard had just left and I had to go in and ask the fellows to come out and pick up the car and move it from the pole...they couldn't believe it. That thing was like Herbie..once it stalled for no reason and next thing a car ran a red light and we didn't get hit...we were amazed!! Matt your Dad was one heck of a guy! Hope Bob will post a pic! Sorry...I do tend to ramble!!

I can't promise but I'll look for it tomorrow. I taped the race HTC had just won when he passed. He was a special man. He'd give you the shirt off his back. He kept 1/2 of the MS class running I think and they were competeing with him, but that didn't matter. If I can find it I'll put it on U-tube. Bob...

What do you charge to do a car model. I have a good picture and would like to have one done. Have seen pics and you are very good. I have seen you at Eastbay and once in awhile I go with family that race there and could get you the picture.
Was there that fri. night when that happen to the Reutimann's..Mrs. R. was already there and remember them calling her into the Office. That was in the days before women were allowed into the Pits..What a terrible loss because of a drunk driver...It was race related...

                        Ricky is the BEST!

He did a model of Emil's old coupe for me and it is so real it brings tears to my eyes. Emil was my first hero at the old track when I first went. He was a good man. I didn't get a chance to look for the HTC tape today. I'll try tomorrow. Bob.

I have no name but several years ago there were 2 drivers killed the same night in antique midgets. May have been a DAARA meet.
