My Two Cents on This One

First off, I like the show. Again it's a reality based/soap opera to keep viewers interested and coming back for more. History channel (or the production company that sold this to them) has the right idea with what it is. Does it put racing in a great light amongst the average fan or TV viewer, probably not. Does it portray the weekend racer in his/her weekly duties, to a point, yes. Same cliche every week, build up a story based on edited film and deliver the finale on the track. We get to see 43min of actual footage each week of countless hours that they shot over a 4+ month period of time. They get to edit it as they may. I would bet that most of the off track stuff is not even in a chronilogical order. Are there any other weekly racing shows on concerning your local weekend racer? Not that i am aware of. Unfortunately i do not have Speed channel. I am excitied that someone was even nice enough to put a show on like this and i think they found a gem at BGS due to it's so called, "Hatfield/McCoy" personna. It is a shame to find out that they are not making a second season. I agree, the move from 10pm to 11pm should have told me something. I am not sure how many episodes are left but i can only hope they show whats to come, especially for the Fleming family and when Georgie Brun... from L.I. comes down to play a little with them for a "Tour" race. Yes it would be nice to see more of the race footage but i can tell you one thing,

THOSE DOUBLE FILE CONE RESTARTS ARE PRETTY INTERESTING AND I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOMEONE WORK THAT INTO A DIVISION OR TWO HERE IN FLORIDA. ANY TAKERS?

Every track has a group of personalities(or traits of some) just like these guys. Jr. Miller reminds me of Dale Sr. I've enjoyed watching some of this stuff. The episode of the kid who took over his deceased fathers ride and was being helped by his grandfather. Wow, great TV. The 80+ year old vintage driver having a blast driving again, a couple of fans walk miles to Tim Browns garage to meet the man and view his operation. What did he do, give them a couple old fenders, hood pieces and autographed them. Those kids were beside themselves. Chris Flemings cows' names. More fun moments. If anything it made me want to visit my local track. Yes, i find it hard that a NASCAR sanctioned track puts up with some of the BS these guys dish out but obviously somethings going right. 15 - 20 thousand in the stands on a regular saturday night @ $10.00 a head. Thats 150 - 200k a weekend just at the front gate. Thats affordable entertainment for that area of the country and it is right in the middle of NASCAR country.
I went to Bowman Gray once back in the early eighties. Yep, that is one tight ass track and the only way to move your position is use up that nerf bar on the front of the car. Hell, what is it there for anyway? I bet Richie Evans had a blast when he ran that place a few times. Heck, think a bunch of us Karnacions should take a road trip over the summer and go to BGS.
All in all, again, i liked the show for what it is/was worth. Has it done anything for racing, probably not. I would say it has equalled what "Days of Thunder" did. Teach people that racing is about crashing and attitude. Not about comradery, sportmanship, honor and just flat out love for the sport.
I will also voice my displeasure to History channel.

The show is awesome. Happened to meet Chris Fleming at Speedweek, super nice guy. Asked him about his corny meeting with JR miller, said it was staged. Love to see afew show up at Speedweek next year, see how long into the week ole JR would make it.
