  • E-Mods for Orlando and New Smyrna - who is building one (asked by Shain Held)

Shain can't seem to login on the message board so he e-mailed me to see if I would post this for him:

i was wondering if you would start a question on karnac, i would but i can not seem to get logged in, anyways can you ask how many people have or planning on building a new E-mod to run orlando -nss. i have asked several mod driver if they are going to change there motors and run the e-mods and all i have talk to have said no. so i was curious on who is going to run the new class. i am building matt a motor to run in it but i parked my mod to run super late. Thank you
    Shain

      my opinion is

there are quite a few mods that are parked so someone should be able to pick up one pretty cheap. Isn't motor cost the main isssue why alot of the cars are parked? The main reason I would want one is to go FASTER but after leaning over my sportsman fenders working on the motor, a mod would be so much easier on my BACK and LEGS!!!

NOT ME!!!!!! Tired of building engines. Got 3 engines sitting on the floor now that I can't run (aren't competetive anymore, or have to add weight, especially at N.S.S.) and 1 in the car. Just wait and see how many engines start spitting parts out and hosing the track down from the ones that think they can turn up the R.P.M.'S now.

Can you spell "GEAR RULE"?? Of course then there's that old adage, just what we need ANOTHER class!!! They've done the same thing with the dirt modifieds, now they've started yet another class called sport modifieds outlawing the high tech rear suspensions and making them run a simple 3 link so they can't hook up a whole bunch of power which was what the e-mods were SUPPOSED to be to BEGIN with!!!! And I wonder why I quit running that stuff in the mid 90's??? NOT!!!!

Only thing about a gear rule is we are back to spending lots of money on engines. Been there, seen that!!! Will need new heads, cam, intake, headers, (approx, 5 to 6 grand at least). That was the first thing the guys with money did. Fascar already tried that. Some even went as far as getting trick transmissions with a 3rd gear ratio that was just a tick lower than 4th and than raced in 3rd gear. They were not cheap either! I was even accused of building some of them (wished I had. Would have made a small fortune).

I sold mine didn't want another motor either. I don't think there is a problem with the class as a hole because if it was then the car counts would be down at every track. To answer Jane's question I only know of 2 people that are switching over and that is not to say that there isn't anymore but I know of only 2 right now. The other guys I've talked to are going to run the 50 lappers and travel to citrus.

what is a e-mod - is it the same size and weight as a open wheel modified that we run here in florida 7 lbs per cube in or is it a down size slower smaller like mini stock . what kind of times would one turn at citrus if and open wheel say turns 14.142 or 14.039 what would an e mod turn and what size eng and what is weight

put picture of one on here please and thank you grandson wanting to race

                        thanks

I only liked the gear rule because I did build some of those trick trannys.

According to the Fascar rule book, everything is identical to regular modifieds, except running either the 602 crate motor, or a super stock rules built motor. 2500lb min weight.

The reason I mentioned the gear rule is that the crate motor peaks out at 5500 rpm and you don't need to be turning a cast crank, cast piston motor much past that if you want it to live. 350 horsepower is a good number for cheap motors that live for awhile. We used to run the little bitty 350 Holley 2bbl when I ran the mods at Volusia and you could throw together a motor for next to nothing that would run up front and live. We actually ran better lap times with the little carb than we did with the open motors. Of course that was because the track was a handling track and was basicly round with no straights to speak of. That was back when modifieds really WERE affordable. I had maybe 5 or 6 k in the whole operation, car, motor and all, and I won the occasional feature and got 2nd in the points twice. I guess you could mandate a limiter chip too, might be easier to police than the gear rule.
