  • Citrus vs Desoto

I can't believe there hasn't been much discussion on the board about there being two big late model races on the same night. Once again, the fans have to choose. Because I'm much closer to Citrus and it's the first race of a new series, I'm going to go there but it would be nice to be able to do both in the same weekend. Someone pointed out a few weeks ago that the Icebreaker has been on this weekend for many years but I thought it had always been on Sunday afternoon. It seems Citrus will have a better car count but Desoto hasn't put out a potential entry list, so I'm not sure.

guess everybodys gotten used to tracks stepping on each others toes . its the floriduh way of doing things . seems like they are all having their own race to see who goes out of buisness first .

I think Citrus is going to be packed. There is a lot of buzz around FAST and I think Citrus is the perfect track for their new rules. Plus I read today that Dick Anderson has been getting himself in shape in the offseason because he wants to get behind the wheel again. I haven't seen him in about six months so I don't know how much weight he's lost, but the thought of having three generations of Andersons out on the track together is kind of mind boggling.

No one will be at Desoto so it should be an easy decision.
Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

Instead of being totally negative as we seem to be alot, I think both will do just great. I had hoped to go to the FAST race for karnac since Jack did the story about the series but due to circumstances beyond my control, I can't. And I also know that Gene Davis has worked hard on his Icebreaker race this weekend. I wish both races the best of luck since I do realize that there are certain drivers who do love Desoto and will go that way and there are drivers very excited about the new FAST series and go that way.

But instead of being negative and blaming them for having their races at the same time, I much rather just say to both tracks and the drivers, best of luck, have fun no matter what, and I look forward to posting your stories and hopefully a few photos to go with them.

I also wish Southern Raceway good luck today with their race and Hendry County with their race and East Bay since they are the only three dirt tracks that I know of running today. Just go out, have fun, and wherever you go whether it is dirt or asphalt - Citrus, Auburndale, Desoto, Charlotte County, the Vintage races, Southern Raceway or Hendry County or East Bay, yell your lungs out and let the drivers know you are there to see them.

HAVE FUN, BE SAFE AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRACK

Jane, it's not being negative to wish that 2 or more tracks would stop trying to out do each other by having big races in the same class on the same night. People like me could go to each if they were on different nights. I live about one hour from each, right in between them. And the person who said that the tracks seem to be racing each other to see whom will close their doors first was right.

I understand that Rick but there is alot of negative right now in our racing world and I am tired of negative. I know the Icebreaker has always been around this time of the year and FAST is new. I really don't know who posted what first but there is nothing we can do about it now. I just rather wish both good luck and have a good night. I wasn't being mean or anything just tired of every one blaming everyone else for something that we really don't have any control over and that is true.

By the way Rick, where are you going tonight. Auburndale opens their 2010 season tonight also, you going there or Desoto or Citrus or staying home for the night. I would have been at Citrus for Jack but plans just did not work out that way so I will be home on Merritt Island and maybe watching the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Models on SPEED. I think that is tonight.

But whatever you do Rick and everyone else, have a great time and alot of fun. We need more fun in our lives and smiles right now since everything else is gloom and doom except my dad may be coming home soon and I am very excited about that. Just have to get our ducks in a row before he can.

                  HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.

                    Citrus

The FAST LM race at Citrus was GREAT!!! Wayne Anderson was fast qualifier and took the challenge to start the rear. A $500 bonus if he won from the rear. It took about 80 of 100 laps, but he made it. Passing most cars on the outside too. Waynes' daughter finished 4th as well...28 cars started(I think).
Good clean race, after 4 cautions before lap 20. Just a cold track I guess.

when did the Icebreaker become a Saturday night race instead of Sunday afternoon? And what the heck is a "Hoosier Elite Series"? I've never heard of it.

Why couldn't FAST have worked *with* DeSoto and sanction the Icebreaker as *both* of their opening event of 2010?

Thanks Jim for the update and sorry Jimmy, but I have no answers to that. I think the Hoosier Elite is what John calls his Super Late Model series but I may be wrong and I honestly don't know about the Sunday afternoon vs. Saturday night thing. When are you moving and are you coming to the Blast from the Past on March 7th at Citrus??? Let me know so I know whether to find you or not and is Scott racing at all this year???

It was a great show, with a bunch of great racers. They all have a lot to be proud of. There was a lot of energy and excitement around the pits. This being the first ever event for a new series, this will be a special event that many will look back at for nostalgia's sake.

As a former track owner, I've seen many different EXPERIENCED series come into a race track and not be as organized as the FAST guys were in their very first event.

There will be growing pains, as there is in any new venture...but with patience by everyone, Florida can have a fun and successful Late Model Tour again.

For a new group they really had it going on. These are going to be some great races in this first season and everyone should get on board...this is going to be a fun ride!

I won't be able to make to the next race at Orlando...but it should be a blast!

The Late Model Race at CCS was great a few Crashes but, through it all was a good race. The ministock race was good as well Jermy Sharrone made it two in a row.Congrats Little Mr. You earned that win .You did a great job.It is fun to see a young man you watch growing up an be a great contender. Who cares if they ran latemodels at two different tracks there were 27 cars in that Fast race.A good strong field. And a very good race.

IceBreaker turned out to be a good race. Their was 19 drivers there for the HES 100 lapper but a lot of BIG names. Choquette, Russell, Fontaine, Shelnut, Bigley, Nasse, and Sloan to name a few. It had to be the cleanest race I have ever seen as well. They ran the first 28 laps green and I think their was only 3 or 4 cautions the entire 100 laps. Tim Russell dominated and won, Choquette struggled as he apeared to have burned up his tires later on in the race and faded.
As for the Modifieds not so clean. Their was 13 or 14 there with Jefferson taking the win.

Oh crap did I just do a race report??

Also keep the family of Phil Morrison in your prayers, I don't want to go into details as I have not confirmed what I heard but it is not good.
