FAST opener was the ICEBREAKER.
A disagreement between FAST and John caused the race to be moved to
Citrus. So the conflick was not pre planned as Desoto was on board with FAST to start with.

To clear up a couple of misconceptions:

The first race of the FAST series was suppose to be the Icebreaker at Desoto on 2/20, but after a disagreement the FAST series was no longer going to run at Desoto at all this year. Because the schedule was all ready done for the series, Citrus picked up the series opener. John then went ahead with his plan to have the Icebreaker, just not as a FAST series race.

The announcer was an very neat guy, he had more announcing experience than most people around. But please realize that he is 73 years old, this is the first race of a new series, and he lives 7 hours away and doesn't know many of our racers in this state. And if you saw the 10 people crowded into the announcers booth with him standing behind them trying to see through them to call the race, you may have had a better understanding of what he was going through. He is a very sharp man, thank you Bill.

Jim, you don't know what you are talking about with Austin. I can name a dozen young "daddy's boy's" as you want to put it, that came to Citrus for their first time and absolutely destroyed their race cars, and looked like they had never driven a car before. I can name a dozen 10 year+ drivers that you would consider "good" , that can't hit their ass when they come to Citrus, heck most of them won't even show up now because they can't get it done here. And the most important thing is, obviously you have never met Austin or his family. I spent some time with them this weekend and they are not at all like what you think they are. Some of the most polite and down to earth people you will ever meet. So don't group all these "daddy's boy's" together. If Herb would have run me throught the rupple strips like that in turn one, I would have knocked the carb off the top of his motor driving over him in the next corner.

The bonus money for starting last and winning was put up by Citrus County Speedway, not the series itself. I credit Steve and Wayne for doing it for the sake of the show, it made for a great race.
