high speed freight trains ? i dont think so thats nascrap . with the lack of car count its a better idea to preserve the few cars we have . doing anything possible to save the racer money outweighs satisfying a few drunk fans . real race fans dont want to see cars torn up . they understand the costs involved . you can all learn to drive on the outside but it only takes one idiot to tear up half the field trying to win on lap one . and we all know every class has one or two of those .

Double file restarts at CCMP

Devils advocate..
To me as one who was there, it was fun to watch, but this Sunday there was not much grip on the outside and that was according to a number of the drivers, that is why they slam down and push their way in, but also keep in mind that a number of drivers like to dive to the infield on the straights to get under the car in front of them and push them up going into the corner, that was done a number of time and caused several wrecks.
As for Dunn he drove a hard race and did well. As your
4th photo shows, that is 2 good super late models and one of the fastest late models that he is walking away from, and they never looked like they where close to catching him and this is before they are all wrecked, that car was super fast for a crate motor car.

Mr South 59...
Mr. South 59 I would have thought after winning the last 2 races at CCMP you would have nothing to complain about. I was obviously wrong. Let me first give you what your looking for and thats apparently a huge WTG, Good Job, Congratulations, Your son's just the best driver out there, NO one had anything for him, I can't possibly imagine why he hasn't been picked up by a huge Nascar team yet with such natural talent.. Give me a break seriously to go on and ask if there's any results posted for a race you just attended all you really wanted was to know why everyone wasn't posting about how great and talented dustin is..
As far as the race itself it was possibly the worst race I have ever seen. It would be extremely helpful to the other drivers and the fans if your son would learn how to restart a race. He should have only been given 1 chance not 3 to get it right. Its not that difficult there are 2 cones start between them..
My final thought and question is Do you have a back bone or are you that worried that the " Veteran" will not be so kind next time?? I just figured your afraid to name names. I myself am not and if Dustin had door slammed me the way he door slammed Joe, neither of us would have finished the race. As far as Joe brake checking him that didn't happen Dustin just decided that instead of passing him he would drive through him which I heard there was much debate on about sending him to the rear. Why can't you just let your kid enjoy a win is it impossible for you to not have to cry about something all the time. I personally would have picked a different target than Joe but to each his own.

OK, can't disagree with that. But not at the cost of racing. You can't expect to race and never scratch your car or have to make a repair. Passing cars is part of racing. Double file restarts are a part of racing in most areas.with the lack of car count its a better idea to preserve the few cars we have .
OK, can't disagree with that either. But you have to satisfy the majority of the fans in order to keep them. The majority are not drunk. (Does this make Jerry a minority?)doing anything possible to save the racer money outweighs satisfying a few drunk fans .
Fairly accurate also. Although there are true race fans that have no idea what the costs are. And most fans do like to see a little banging and bumping.real race fans dont want to see cars torn up . they understand the costs involved .
That's true also. But lap one is always a double file start at every track I've ever been to. Personally, I like the Delaware style restarts until the halfway point in a race. I think it makes for better (fan friendly) racing. It will also make for better racers in the long run. Of course doing away with time trials will also make for more exciting racing and better racers.you can all learn to drive on the outside but it only takes one idiot to tear up half the field trying to win on lap one . and we all know every class has one or two of those .

Any race that tears up all the cars, is pretty much a lousy race... it has nothing to do with having a few beers with your buddies at the racetrack.
Any race that has no action or passing, is also a lousy race.
Passing, spins, and yes, crashes ARE a part of the action at a short track. If heads-up starts, no passing and no action are fine with you, you're not much of a real race fan in the first place.
A race that "preserves all the cars" isn't a race at all... it's hot-laps with a lap counter.
Also, I wonder how many of these crashes/scrapes/etc... were caused by drivers listening to their spotters. Mr. Dunn has admitted himself that he "told my driver to move down a lane" so as not to get passed (this was a few weeks ago... not last Sunday). So, really, who exactly was driving that car? I know Dustin was steering it, but only where Andrew told him to go. Not trying to isolate the Dunns, but he was one who openly admitted to telling his driver where to run/block.
I say get rid of the radios (other than a Raceiver system) and we'll see who the REAL racers are. Any putz can block every move from the guy behind, as long as a spotter tells him where to move to. Really, what's the purpose of radios during the race? If it's not to consult on chassis changes later in the race, what is getting accomplished?
BLOCKING.... which ISN'T racing.

When I get time I'll put the only wreck in Sundays race that I can attribute to double file re-starts on u-tube. 1 car got out of shape and collected several of the top dogs. The cars were bunched up a little more than a single file re-start but I have seen just as bad crashes with single file. Most of the other crashes were just hard racing and as Jerry said thats short track racing. I agree with Jerry if thats the kind of racing you want why race just do controled hot laps. Its been a very long time since I sat in the seat but when I did, the thrill of racing was to attempt to pass the guy in front of you. When I ran last it was fun to race against the next to last car. I think I got most of the crashes on tape Sunday and most could have been prevented. Steve Dorr got taken out I think in the 3rd lap, and it was no fault of his. Steve Gill had a tire go down and spun going into turn 3 and collected Dorr. That wasn't eithers fault just close racing on a short track. Now Johnny Kay got collected by Shellnut and it mashed the front of his car really good. He got the front end off of it and came back and finished 3rd. I don't know about anyone else but I enjoyed the racing Sunday. I don't enjoy all the torn up equipment but the racing was good. As someone said above there was no traction in the 2nd groove for most of the day. Another trteatment with the tacky stuff would improve the racing greatly. Bob..

delaware restarts worked great with the southern sportsman series because they were all clean , respectful drivers . aint gonna find that at your local short track ! it would be nice but every track has its johnny crash and burn tryin to win the race from 15th place on the first lap going into turn one ! cars are still gonna get torn up racin but alot less with single file . safety should be your first and only concern .

I never use a radio, too distracting. This last year Bronson allowed mirrors, never had one of those either. I put in a mirror and almost went too deep and in the wall. I Only use the mirror to see who is back there during restarts. Mirrors are distracting also.
I use my sence of hearing when a car is close. If my engine starts to harmonize with another, then someone is close. If I glance left before lifting and see a nose, then he got me and has the line. Thats the way I have driven all these years and it works for me. Blockin' is wreckin' IMO.
-JIM-RIP Jack Smith and Kim Brown. Many thanks for all you have done for our sport.

Jerry, Thats not nice trying to changing around what I posted a few weeks ago . We all know how to do a search. I have never told Dustin to move or down on the track to block or interfear with another driver. I often tell him " a little higher in one" or "a little lower exiting 4" to help him pic up speed. And what I did say in that post a few months ago had nothing to do with you said I said. Mr. Dunn has admitted himself that he "told my driver to move down a lane" so as not to get passed (this was a few weeks ago... not last Sunday). It had nothing to do with "so as not to get passed". It had to do with picking up speed on the track and leaving Jimmy Lang and running down Larson. I went back and found the post. This was copied from the post you are refering to. I was talking to Larson's crew chief.
To bad the rain came. I think we had a shot at that one. That was pretty cool. I told my driver to move down lower on the track and then he left Lang and reeled you guys in. Then you tell your driver to move up and he finds more speed. We over heated the tires running you down. We needed that yellow but we didn't need rain. That was some good racing.
Jerry, I would invite you or anyone to monitor my radios and if you ever heard anything like what you were saying I did on the radio I would gladly have you post it to the world. We are not that way. You will more than likely here me tell him to let a faster car go by that you will ever here me tell him to run their line to block them. That is how you get wrecked. Jerry. We finish races. You don't do that by blocking. We mostly finish better that our car is because we let the fast guys by and they wreck the blockers. We know how to play the game. We have been in it a long time.
Know I would like you to recant what you said I did. It would only be fair. Thanks

UGH, this thread covers every angle so i'll throw my bits in. I never used mirrors or spotters and don't believe in neither because local racers are not doing 190 mph on a mile and a half.WE DON'T NEED THEM.
Double file restarts, well seeing how i used to be able to pick off 2-3 cars on a single file restart i'd go double all day. No problem when you go to the outside.
Drivers need to respect each other but then again as far as your car getting tore up in some instances remember your only safe on track by yourself.....and they call it a controlled environment LOL.far from it.
Mr South i don't come on here often anymore but if i read right this is 2 wins in a row......Congrats.
He Jim H.....good reply, the way it should be, but, you can hear another car? BWAAHHAAAHHHAAA!!!!!!!Last edited by Benny The Mule; 01-20-2010, 08:05 PM.Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.
