  • Anyone know about Bronson?

The Gainesville TV-20 news today mentioned that Bronson Speedway is up for sale. They showed a brief interview with Mike Cope, who said that there was some interest but that no buyer had come forward. I'd really hate to see this track go away. It's the closest one to Gainesville and I've enjoyed many good nights of racing there.

I have heard two different stories as to what was going to happen to the track. The first had Paul Petrie leasing it and running it in 2010. I have also heard that the Coopers (Tom, Robbie, and Brent) were negotiating a lease deal. There could be a whole lot of truth, or very little truth, to either or both of those stories. All I can say with any certainty is that no one has contacted me about anything having to do with Bronson for 2010. If someone does buy it or lease it, I'm willing to continue to be their announcer if they want me. If not, then no hard feelings.

I've also heard there is a lien on the track from some work done last year and not paid for. It involves an electrical contractor called on Saturday to replace the main power pole just hours before racing to start.
They came in and replaced the pole and the main breaker box and meter can on the pole. They finished just in time to allow racing that night, but were never paid. Just something told to us by another regular racer there.

Hope something breaks soon about Bronson. It's a great little track and the crew were great too.

          The Facts on BMS

Bronson Motor Speedway & Mudbog are For Sale or Lease. Some folks have contacted us for information, but no contract of any kind is in place.

TV-20 News did contact us for a story on the speedway, which we were glad to do. We are hopeful to have something in place soon, and to see Bronson Motor Speedway operated as a race track for long time.

Other than that, not much news to tell, but Thanks for asking!

I just cannot understand how a race track can fail in Fla!?!?!?!?!?we've been closing tracks for decades. with all this practice, we're getting really good at it.

more seriously, Fla has been one of the worst hit states by this recession. it's doubtful that any track with poor management will survive this. it probably won't be that unusual for well run tracks to fold.

Unless someone comes in and buys it or leases it, I have heard Bronson will be closed in 2010. There was a rumor that it would be a "special events" track but I doubt that was even true. And yes, it is a shame to see it not run but unless you get cars and fans and support your local track, it is hard for any of them to make it. You can try as hard as you can but you have got to get cars and fans and today, that is a tall order for most all tracks. Dirt seems to be doing better than asphalt as far as cars and fans go but today, you have really got to work hard at promoting any track and making people want to come to your show.

it.s a shame any time a race track closes but you have to make a profit

you can only lose so much money then one day you just give up i not saying that is what happened .

i had a driver tell me the other day he had 45.000 dollars in an open wheel and one of the tracks he races at pays 300.00 to win now that track will never close as long as first class cars race for free

support your local race track or they all will close and you can sit home and watch nascar follow the leader

me i hope bronson don't close the economy is rough right now

You got it Ron, you got to support them to keep them. The problem is no one is ever happy and you complain about whatever and then other people take it to heart and decide before even going, why bother. In that respect, a message board can be your worse enemy. That is why I always say don't knock it before you try it. Don't always believe everything you read or you might just miss out on something you would have loved.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TRACK, THAT IS, IF YOU WANT A LOCAL TRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just want to say thanks for posting the facts. I made a lot of friends at Bronson and hopefully one day I'll be back there again. It is an awesome little track that lends itself to great racing action. It would be a shame to see it gone for good.

WOW... you sound like you are interested in this little jewel.

They raced on Sat nights, track not worn out at all (great shape), the whole property is in GREAT shape, buildings, stands, track, parking, pits, bathrooms etc. (you name it, its in great shape). Well lit, you can see every inch of the track... Jane and Mike Cope own the place. Additional land other than what you can see when you drive in the gate.
If I had the financing,,, I'd be there first in line to buy the place.
Nice community - "Country Style" - great town people - only 26 miles from Gainesville Fl.

Oops.. they sold beer when Jane and Mike operated the track.. while it was leased out recently - NO BEER (not what I would have done - but different strokes for different folks)

Come on Ron... you'd make a great track owner/promoter/

I call it Bronson International Speedway.... gotta see it to appreciate it.....AND YOU NEED TO SEE IT!
Thank a Police Officer for what they do........... OSF:
