Jim, a Brinn or Bert is a driect drive transmission with an internal clutch that only works low gear and reverse. When you put it in high gear it is direct drive and by-passes the clutch. Hope that helps you.

It was not a bert or brinn transmission. Apparently it was a Rankin that once in high gear disenages the other gears. No real advantage at short tracks, but apparently its pretty big at Daytona. Bottomline it shouldnt have been in there, but he would have still dominated the race without it.

now i can tell it back in day i couldn't but when we had the super sixes we had better set up than falcon - brett-or brinn and that was 25 years ago

and there are 50 guys still alive that know about it even today you could turn 6 cyclinder9000 rpm's or more sounded like hiabusa when you reved it up came off corner like fast fast and when you let off of it in corners it shut down quick
