  • Choquette's Tranny

So what exactly is an uapproved transmission - do they have a gearing rule or something? I never really thought too much about what there would be to regulate in a transmission - or what sort of advantage one could achieve.

    How many do you need:

Friction, gearing, drag, OEM or racing, number of speeds, weight, size, inside clutch, & so on.

There are gazillion of transmissions on the market today and each have its own little caracteristic(s).

Rules state transmission must be OEM type with 1 foward gear and 1 reverse gear.

No Rakin drive or driect drive transmissions permitted.

Andre - I should add - Wow! I don't know shit from shinola regarding transmissions for sure, but I was more curious about how it relates to what they are teching with regard to them.

mr south - are those the the only things? - they dont sound too grey.

Yeh Bubba that is the entire rules on transmissions. They probabily had a Brinn or Bret in the car.I would bet that they weren't the onlt car with one either.

            with 1 foward gear

only one forward gear? that's kind of strange.

I'm not sure, so don't quote me on this, but i heard it was a direct drive transmission. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

                  Cheatin' Choquette.....

Man....where have I heard that before?

Oh yeah....when he got busted for that "lightly massaged" Progressive crate motor. I remember it pretty well because his girlfriend piped up to assure us all that Jeff doesn't have to cheat to win races and that he would bounce right back from that little bit of negative press.

I tell ya....it's great for the driver when he wins races and gets his name in the racing papers and websites. All the work and efforts of the crews usually go unnoticed as the driver reaps all the glory.

Problem is that when the car gets found illegal, he gets all the blame and bad press too.

I guess that just comes with the job, though.

Hey.......maybe this was a rebuilt tranny that they had massaged by an approved rebuilder? Awww....it probably didn't help him go any faster anyways.

Funny how cheatin' parts are always described that way, ain't it?

.......direct drive....um....like a sprint car that has to be push started.......

Sorry but I have never heard of a direct drive with a reverse also.
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but does direct drive mean 'no clutch'?

I'll check on that from the source that told me. I'm not much of a tech guy, so maybe that isn't what he told me. I'll find out though.

Some rules state that no aluminun case trannys,no 5 speeds, none with the clutch inside(brin I think). These are a few illegal that come to mind.

They also DQ'd Max Gresham, son of the owners of Gresham Motorsports Park. No conspiracy theories needed, just plain illegal!

Jim, a Brinn or Bert is a driect drive transmission with an internal clutch that only works low gear and reverse. When you put it in high gear it is direct drive and by-passes the clutch. Hope that helps you.
