    FLORIDA GOVERNOR'S CUP 200 - UPDATE
    $10,000.00 BONUS!

    *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ***

(10.19.09 - FASCAR Media) The 44th Annual Florida Governor's Cup 200 is scheduled for the weekend of November 20th and 21st at the historic New Smyrna Speedway. Officials have announced the addition of a $10,000.00 bonus this week that is being put up by one of the track's sponsors.

MJS Concrete, Inc out of Oviedo, Florida has sponsored the $10,000.00 Bonus for any driver that can win both the Florida Governor's Cup 200 and the Derby in Pensacola.

Only one time in history has such a feat been accomplished, back in 1972, when Ed Howe drove to Victory in both races, widely regarded as two of the biggest Super Late Model races in the Southeast.

In addition to the Bonus Money and the new Weekend format of the race, Ricky Brooks, long time Tech Inspector at Pensacola was announced earlier this year as the Head Tech-Inspector for the Governor's Cup.

The Friday Night schedule will feature double points for the FASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Models, Modifieds, Sportsman, Mini-Stocks and Super Stocks as they complete their 2009 Points Season, with 3 practice rounds for the Super Late Models rotated into the schedule. Saturday Night will feature a 50 lap feature for the Pro-Trucks, 25 laps for the Strictly Stocks, and the 200 lap 44th Annual Florida Governor's Cup for the Super Late Models.

For more information including expected and confirmed pre-entries, log onto www.NewSmyrnaSpeedway.org or call the FASCAR Office at 386.427.4129.

Entry Forms and Purse Information is available online at www.NewSmyrnaSpeedway.org.

    Wow.

Will this bring back the out-of-state cars? Will we see Augie Grill, Scott Carlson, Eddie Mercer, and the other big dawgs from Pensacola down at the quick half-mile in Samsula...??

That is some good stuff, I hope they publicize this up in the panhandle. With less than 10 cars on the pre-entered/expected list, might be easy pickings for somebody like Augie Grill.

Wow. That's very impressive. That should definitely spice things up for some extra car entries.

I should re-phrase my comment above - it might seem like easy pickings for Augie and the guys from up there with. Hopefully it does and they all come down. I would love to see a solid field - kudos to the folks at MJS concrete.

Hey Snowball - spread the word...

I was thinking we should start a poll to see who you all think would have the best shot at winning both...

This is a great concept to attract cars to NSS. 30.000 for the derby vs. 5.000 for the G cup. I guess you gotta do something to attract the heavy hitters. Lets face it, without the generous bonus from the concrete co. derby hopefuls just will not come. Here is a thought from someone who has made the governor's cup since I was a teenager in the early 80's. Robert Hart or whoever is in charge at NSS pay the last finishing position for the derby out of your pocket, guessing around 400.00 bucks or so, then guarantee the gov. cup winner a provisional starting spot in the derby (if needed). Of course to accomplish this someone has gotta talk to Five Flags. They'll love it and so will the drivers.

Now that would bring em in - pay Five Flags a "royalty" then see what happens. That is almost a guarantee, although it wouldnt come cheap as Five Flags doesnt stand to benefit too much from it other than cash. If they could pull that off, they would draw a field of cars.

It would seem that Five Flags could benefit better if they did provide a provisional spot for the Governors Cup. These two parts of Florida in recent years have had problems drawing each others cars for big events.

New Smyrna has offered a $10,000 bonus if the locally favored Pensacola drivers can come to NSS and win the Governors Cup as well as their own Snowball Derby They have offered the same to the local NSS drivers an opportunity to do the opposite.

If you think in terms of the Snowball being a 5 day event, NSS is guaranteeing 1 team will attend and compete. Between a crews pit admissions, tires, ect. They have already comitted the $1250 to Pensacola. They have created the hype of one driver above all others that is competing for an additional $10,000 if he/she can win. Great for the announcers at Pensacola.

As a different approach for Pensacola, create the Governors Cup provisional starting spot. Make it not just for the winner of the Govenors Cup. Make it for the first finisher that needs the provisional. In other words, if the top ten finishers of the Govenors Cup qualify on their own efforts and do not need the provisional, the provisional goes to the 11th place (or next finishing) car participating at the Snowball.

                              Just a thought...,.
