Most of you are overlooking the improvements.
Now it is a two day event. Hopefully the atmosphere will catch on and make this a must-see race weekend.
Several local classes have been added. Great for guys like me who want to be in on the "big event".
Changes on the competition end to start erasing the belief that the deck is stacked in favor of the FL teams. There is plenty of work to be done here.
"Double points" This costs nothing and increases participation.
Racing flea market and all-day activity Ok, so the race is at night, but if you want to spent the whole day in the sun at the track, then feel free.
Its like they say in the drunk meetings, "progress, not perfection". Next year make it even bigger and better! I hope the idea of qualifying races can be looked at, instead of time trials.Last edited by Boneman; 08-18-2009, 10:41 AM.

Lookee here, me and Boney agree! Jury is still out on the spotter havin-liberal EDM.
Getting this thing turned back into the race we all want will take some time and the things I have seen so far are all in the right direction if not all the way where they should be.

You want some of this? I've been quiet for a day or so and here you go trying to get me started again...
I've even left EDM alone because he is dealing with his "Hidden Life Style" deal.
And you know me... I've never started a problem... but always get a finger (middle) pointed at me.... lolThank a Police Officer for what they do........... OSF:

Couldn't agree more with Boneman.
Now, this is a race worth staying the whole weekend for. But I do think that, in the future, having most of the program revolve around the Saturday & Sunday afternoons would probably pull in more people. You have to be pretty damned die-hard to head to a track knowing it'll be in the 30's or 40's. MANY people stay home instead of choosing to freeze!
Also, I think it would increase the size of the fields, as there are a lot of teams that just can't take Friday off to spend at the track.
I know there is a large group of Promoters who believe that "Sunday shows just don't work", but if properly planned and pre-scheduled to run on a Sunday, these shows can be ultra-successful.

The promoter of this race better wake up and listen to his customers. A Sunday afternoon race that time of the year would be a smash hit. The grandstands would be full instead of only 1/4 full. A cold beer sure would taste better at 2pm rather than 9:30 at night when its 35 degrees. He would sell a lot more beer and concessions.
There is absolutely nothing else going on Sunday PM. The casual fan would be more apt to come in the afternoon than at night.
Please let the promoter let you know how you feel. I have on several occasions and know of many others that have, but have gotten no response from him. Lets start letting these tracks know who pays the bills.

Yes the Snowball Derby IS on a Sunday.
So is Super Dirt Week (Modified finale on Sunday), the All-American 400 in Nashville, The Oswego Classic, Toyota Showdown (I think), Copper World Classic, The Eastern States 200, and several more. Mainly asphalt shows, as dirt tracks turn lousy in the sunlight.
I think their biggest fear is competition from the Nascar race at Homestead (last year they were on the same weekend), which I don't think should be considered at all. The real race fans... the ones that would like to be at NSS anyways... would tape the Cup race, and come to see a live race. But, that could be 2000 people for a day race, and maybe only 500 on a cold night (on top of the growing group that doesn't give a crap about Nascar anymore anyways).
Sunday afternoon race CAN WORK... and it's a hell of a lot more enjoyable as a fan. I can't imagine sitting out at 5-Flags until 11:00... frostbite starts setting in at dusk!
Overall though, I think this is an absolute positive in trying to turn this weekend into the "something special" that it could be... but hasn't been in a long time!
