Todd, sorry for using someone's name...we have just moved to North Florida and my computer was still packed. But I am back!! I agree with Bobby there are plenty of modifieds to have good races at both tracks. Go Bobby Go...we need to keep at least two tracks running. Negativity is so childish...tracks in Florida need positive thoughts from both racers and fans. All are working hard to stay open and alive and trust me all owners, promoters and tracks are broke too! Hopefully the tide will turn and the economy will lighten up some. Sandy

If I were running Ocala Speedway for example, my first goal would be to do everything so well that I attract every dirt driver and fan from Volusia and Putnam County and even Lake City. Maybe I should stay out of the race track business.
Ocala runs on a Friday night. the only other track in Florida that runs on a Friday night is Orlando and that's paved so they aren't natural competition for each other.
being that no other track is cutting into Ocala's car count or fan attendance, it serves Ocala's interest to cooperate with the other dirt tracks and standardize rules so that they have as large a pool of drivers to pull from as possible.
larger fields translates into larger shows which should pull more fans.
the other thing is that this state is hardly over-built for short track racing entertainment. Putnam and New Smyrna are the only tracks left on the east coast, everything else is central or west coast. the notable thing about Florida is how much so many of it's tracks under-perform given their population base.
besides, by your theory there should only be one track in the state of Florida. you think you're going to beat Daytona? you might want to reconsider that strategy.Racers Supporting Racers - for all your Vero Beach area automotive repair needs:

AJ what Bobby was saying is CCMP has the modifieds the 1st and third Sat's and Auburndale has them the 4th Sat. Thats been on our schedule all year. So i guess if Sandy and Don planed them for the 2nd Sat they could possibly get all the teams in Florida. Especially if the payouts good. You offer big money sometimes and they come out of the wood work. I remember at Desoto years ago whe the OWM class was started here, there wasn't enough cars to run 2 heats. Then some of the sportsmen knocked their fenders off and went racing in the OWM class. They have come a long way since then. From Bobbys post we should have 18 to 20 Modifieds and by todays standard thats a GOOD field. Bob...

It certainly would be a good idea for the promoters to work together on the schedules . Thats especially true of tracks who are fairly close to each other . In this case Columbia will probably still have the cream of the crop of modifieds just because they like to race there . And CC will probably have a good car count from the local racers . So hopefully they both get in a good show . And you're right about pay-outs . Thats almost always the determining factor .
Thanks for the heads up on what Bobby was trying to say . I had to search Wikepedia to try to find out what 4st was . They didn't have it so i figured maybe he meant 4th , though with Bobbys' unique take on the English language he could have meant something completely different .
