  • Does anyone know how much to buy Desoto Super Speedway?

    http://sarasota.craigslist.org/off/1208549087.html

Don't think it's in my budget, but just curious what a race track goes for. It looks like the drag strip is not for sale, just the oval.

Is your question how much DeSoto is worth , or how much John thinks its worth ? It would depend on whether or not the orange grove goes with the track . John paid far more than it was worth when he bought it .
I've heard him say it was worth approx, $1.3 million . In the real world , not counting the grove , it would be worth about $450,000 . And of course whoever bought it would have some EPA concerns , especially over behind turns three and four in the aux. parking lot .

        Good question ?

If i had lottery type money I would build my own track in the middle of nowhere so developers could not shut it down with their B.S. housing construction. I don't think I would buy anyone else problems with the community, location, racers or politicians. I think I would build it as memorial to Hialeah as far as track size and with better amenities and pit area for racers.

The dragstrip has had a different owner than the oval for many years . The only time they were under the same owner was when Gene and Stanley built the oval , Stanley already owned the dragstrip at the time .

Is this a case of the dragstrip being there adjacent to the oval helps the oval because no one would buy it for a housing development because they would be next to a drag strip? Of course that doesn't stop someone from buying it for industrial purposes.

Oddly , there has been a housing development next door ( within baseball throw almost ) for thirty years or more . They seem to coexist , although if the tracks close for any reason , i'll bet they would be prevented from ever opening again . If the property is ever sold it will be a race track or commercial . If someone buys both tracks , it could go either way . That land is suitable for houses or buildings .

There's always a crowd out there during the bus races and I do have sponsor spaces available on a few buses that I have call me if interested

Just noticed that the track is also listed for sale, on EBay. I just checked, and yes, it's there too.

I am wondering how much it costs to repave a track like Desoto. The first thing the new owner would need to do is repave it, IMHO (unless he turns it to dirt, which is another whole deal I guess).

Also, the main grandstands are rotting. The track has roped off a section of the grandstands down towards turn one, because it is unsafe. However, if you look at any of the first three sections, many of the planks are almost completely rotted through underneath, and are sagging.

Sounds like John hasn't been putting money in the track in along time. What happen to safty first?

Sounds more like he's trying to sell it to a developer. I noticed how they listed all the subdivisions in the current area and then as an after thought mentioned what kind of race track it was.

OSR, I got the same impression from the listing.
