  • NSS - Good Bad and Ugly

I am going to start with the Good - good quality of cars for the most part if not in total quantity, and from my personal perspective, it is Great to see David Rogers getting his swerve back. Set fast time and seemed to be coming on at the end. Good run.

Bad - Where the he!! did the dune buggies go? You have no idea how frustrating it was a fan to watch TWO guys spreading speedy dry by hand and push broom through the whole first/second corner - then realize they missed a spot and have to do it again after 15 minutes the first time!! Then repeat that scene everytime there was liquid down. It was freezing out last night and the operations at the track seemed to be completely out of touch. What was with the 5-10 minute delay after Choquette left the track before we started the mod feature (just one example)? I will not hold the generator incident and subsequent delay against the track as that was unforseen, and Mr Hart stepped up and did something about it. There were SIX races to run last night and even at that, the next race was still not lined up when the previous one was over. VSP is putting you guys to shame - I saw nearly 20 races at VSP and left by 11:30. I actually felt for Mark in the tower as he had to fill some time last night.

Ugly - CRASH a Rama!! It was exciting, but I have never seen as much carnage as last night. This was NOT NSS fault, and certainly led to the delays, but I still hold the cleanup/organization of the show against them. I will be amazed if they have nearly the car count tonight. The NE Mods were brutal, most of their incidents seems to be the kind where you put it on the trailer and head home. The poor guy that hit head on in turn 1 (Kay?) was one of the hardest hits I have seen there in 30 years. Didnt think he was getting out of that one.

Overall, NSS needs to get it together, I have changed my plans for tonight and I am spending my money at Disney today with the family. I wont be back unless they get the dune buggy crew back in action - or enlist more help.

I think the carnage was typical for the a World Series opening night. They generally get much better as the week goes on and everyone settles down.

It was a shame to see so much equipment torn up, particularly in the tour Mods. It seemed that the cars that were passing on the outside, fighting it out toward the front were the ones that kept slamming the concrete.

Don't underestimate how tough these teams are. By the end of their feature, Ryan Preece's team already had the 2X completely cut up. There were 4 or 5 guys working on it. Its a World Series tradition to have some teams working all night, and I am sure that is going on as I write this.

As car after car slammed the turn 1 wall, I kept wishing for about 100 feet of soft wall in that area. Ok, so you don't want it the whole way around the track, but it sure would have saved lots of cars and sore drivers to at least have it in a few spots.

Agreed, the clean ups seemed to take too long. I saw both buggys there, but I don't remember them being driven very much. Don't worry, the track crew and drivers will find their stride.

I got a kick out of 16 year old SLM driver Johanna Long. She held her own in the SLM feature and looked like a pro! Also, a tip of the hat to my buddy Mark (voice of NSS). We are fortunate to have him working the mic.

Ummmm....Y'all are gonna kill me fopr this one, but I gotta go there.

Wanna fix the clean up times? Go dirt. LOL!

Sorry, but temptation got the better of me.

BTW...I haven't been to NSS recently, but everytime I have been there the crews have done a very good job. NSS is an excellent venue for asphalt racing and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see some exciting asphalt action. Track crews are rarely very efficient the first or second times out in a season, so you have to allow for that. So give them a mulligan for this one and they will be better as time passes.

        Bubba... about Johnny Kay...

Just talked to Johnnie. he is a little sore but thank God he is ok. the car was brand new and thats what hurts him..... will cost alot of money to fix...or replace. he said most of the wrecks should never have happened. especially at NSS. i guess its a challenging track. anyway i am just happy he is ok...

Good to hear he is OK, carol. Too bad about his car, I could be wrong, but it looked like the frame was bent - better it than him!
